Iuigisho I've never changed the oil pressure sensor. I have replaced my O2 sensors recently.

zoomlater, I have changed my oil, oil filter, and fuel filter (every other oil change) regularly throughout the life of the car. I have always used premium oil (and gas) until this recent period of increased oil use.

I would consider changing this sensor if its never been changed, then see if the oil light goes away. if not, then consider the rod bearings job.

Nick Chrimes, sorry about the location mixup. But I got a good recommendation out of undergraduate school and actually went to San Jose State for graduate school. A man by the name of Norm Gundersan set up the program I graduated from and he also started the School of Engineering at SJSU. I got a job at Ames Research Institute as part of the package they gave me to go to school there. It was the first time in my education where I could afford a place to live. The experience exceeded all my expectations. California is an amazing state and the people I met were real good people and very good to me. I grew a lot lot as a person in those years. I know none of this is about my car.

zoomlater, I'm hoping to find someone soon to do the TB job and I'll get a new oil pressure sensor put in then. The car sure is running good. And when I reconnected the valve cover hose to the TB, it pretty quickly made a real difference in the color of the oil.

It's basically follow your nose. Undo all the bolts, including the ones holding the EGR Valve on if present (won't be there if this is a non-California car) to the left rear corner of the intake. No need to drain the coolant. Very little will come out when you remove the TB hoses, although you may want to decant some from the vertical hose at the back of the TB and then plug it. But seeing as you are replacing those hoses, will need to drain it. The Intake Manifold Relay Control (IMRC) stays bolted to the intake.

The steel intake manifold gaskets are reusable as long as the paint round the ports is intact. If not:

Nick Chimes, when I looked at the Intake Manifold Gasket MS94831, its a set of 10 gaskets. That made me think I'm not understanding
what has to be taken apart in this clean the TB job.

I'm looking from the front of the car back at the engine. On the right is the corrugated hose that houses the air filter and attaches to the right side of the TB. The TB left side connects to the intake on the manifold (right side of all the piping on the top of the engine).
My wordingg may be all wrong.

I was thiking that the corrugated hose gets detached from the TB. The TB (4 bolts) gets detached from the intake on the manifold.
Does more need to be taken apart, not including the formed hoses. I was thinking that there was a 2 gasket set and that I would use 1 if the gasket between the TB and the intake on the manifold if the paint round the ports has come off.

Please clarify this. Thanks again.

Correct on the MS94831: it's a full set of intake gaskets, but the only way of getting the steel ones that go between the intake and cylinder heads. Remember, however, that you won't need them if the black paint around the intake ports is intact.

The other gaskets are inside the intake and won't be needed. You won't need to disassemble it unless you plan to replace the intake couplers (which I believe you don't).

Thanks for the pointer on those TBs with and without the TPS zoomlater. I guess its just an oversight, but the TB without the TPS does not have a year. It looks like mine. I've not had much luck emailing Sparks, the vendor. Do you think this is the right TB for my 89' SHO zoomlater. I'm thinking that the TB was the same for the 89-95 SHOs based on the ad with the TPS.

And I'm thinking that the 2nd NoSlo picture (EGR passages/intake interface to TB) was as far into the manifold as I would go. The EGR passages surface could be cleaned. But no telling what the other side of the intake into inside of the manifold looks like - months of high oil use and periodic smoke ups. And I'm thinking that it was NoSlo that said I may have to go into the intake past the EGR passages surface to get to hoses 7 and 8, but that the IAB stays bolted onto the intake.

But the car sure is running good, and sometimes it does not smoke up or its just a small amout or just the smell.

I would try emailing them again, but I am pretty sure its the correct one. Maybe there is just some residual oil that still needed to be burned up. Looks like Sparks has a lot of those throttle bodies so maybe you can continue to see if your car gets better over time.

On a side note, TPS sensors are way less expensive than what they are asking for a throttle body with TPS sensor.

zoomlater, Sparks got back to me and said that the only casting number stamped on the throttle body is KOA-03. This is a 65mm throttle body for the 3.0L MTX (1992-1995) he said. I still don't know if this will fit my car. I hope they have one for my car.

I took a look at the two spare throttle bodies I have and they are both marked KOA-02. You should be able to look at your car and see what part number is on the throttle body. The number is on the top side so you should be able to see it with it installed. I don't know the difference between the two, but I would have thought they were interchangeable. Perhaps someone else can chime in if they know what the difference is between the -02 and -03.

What's interesting is when I first saw the bare throttle body on the spark surplus site, it was only $49.95, now its $99.95. At $49.95, I would have considered it cheaper than paying someone to clean it out. Goes up $50 when you ask a question about it.

Looking at the spark surplus site, if you look at the throttle body that comes with TPS sensor, the part number they show for that part is K0A-02 which they list is good for a 1989 3.0 SHO engine. If you use the drop down menu, it also shows this part works on a 92 thru 95 3.0 MTX SHO engine
