Greetings,

First-time poster here, was not hoping for my first post to be in regards to a blown motor.. But, here we are. Long story short got dogged on a private seller selling me a 2010 SHO with bad rings, started experiencing extreme blowby within a month. I sourced a 2018 EcoBoost Explorer motor for a great deal (30K miles for $1,500 [totaled car]) and I am wondering other than tuning to proper calibration would the motor bolt up without modifications? I appreciate any insight!

I don't think without modifications. There are some things that you probably have to swap over from the bad motor. THere are 1 or 2 swaps documented from 10-12 motors to 13+ or vice versa. You have to use the search function as those I recall are like 1-2 years old at least. Some were very detailed.

Thanks Luigi, I have seen the cam and crank sensors need to be swapped. I tune for a living so I'm confident I won't need to go too crazy with sensors, and I'll port the MED9 stock cal to the Green Oak PCM to keep it running smoothly.

The information I am looking for is in regards to the physical motor differences. I have yet to pull the stock one out just yet, but I can't seem to find much info.

Motors are identical. There were some changes made from 10-12, and 13+ between all the transverse 3.5L platforms.
That's what I like to hear, I'll be picking the motor up in a few hours! I'm hoping at least that the 2018 is a bit more durable..

I've heard the drivers-side top transmission mount may be slightly different between the Explorer and the SHO...but I can't verify.

I haven't checked that just yet but hopefully it won't be too much of an issue. I'll definitely be posting some info and picture to show the differences as well as the process. I appreciate your help !

UPDATE: Motor is in, running, driving perfectly. I will talk to my buddy Scott (mechanic) in regards to the specifics pertaining to cam sensor and crank sensor. Other than that the drive home was smooth without issue (didn't get over 40mph, nor into boost.)
