Greetings, I got to enjoy the Arizona sun the other day when I got to change a flat tire. Since I have the PP, it only comes with the mobility kit. Knowing my luck, I bought a spare donut tire and jack out of a totaled Taurus. Although I checked the bolt patterns, I obviously didn't check the wheel depth. Well, needless to say, when I put the donut tire on, the calipers started to hit the wheel. Needless to say, I had to get towed in for tire repair. What is everyone doing for a spare to alleviate this problem? My luck, I would have a side wall failure where the mobility kit would be useless so I am looking for a real spare. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Excited to be part of the group! Thanks! Kevin

I bet it would have fit on the rear. You have a spare from a 2012 and older. Just get one from a 2013 and newer. Explorer and MKS will work too.

In hindsight, I was going to try it on the rear and see if that works. I will give it a try. thanks

IMO, the best way to have a spare tire with an AWD car is to buy another factory wheel and buy 5 tires and rotate them all. That way if you cut a tire down at 25-75% tread you have another tire waiting in the trunk instead of having to buy new tires all the way around or have one tire shaven down to match. I do this with my wifes 2014 SEL and the 5th wheel and tire is my spare tire even though it's in her trunk. I take it with if I'm out of town. You have to rotate your tires more often but that's a good thing anyways. Plug you are notified if you have a flat spare! LOL Now that I'm running 255/45-20's it's not going to work for me though anymore.

Will a full size spare fit in the trunk??

The suggestion to get the newer spare that fits is good, or get a thick wheel spacer to use with your current spare, that will clear the caliper.

FWIW, I got a Modern Spare kit for my previous (non-Ford) car, that fit in the tire well. My current car is the same model, but with bigger 6-piston Brembos, so the spare won't fit the front. But Modern Spare sells a spacer so the 18" compact spare I have will fit over the bigger calipers.

Just dawned on me that my Dodge has the same bolt pattern as Ford. Check out the spacer here: https://modernspare.com/

I use AAA, usually they plug the tire on the spot or bring a replacement if its bad
