I was asked by JBeck to do some measuring on my rotors. So I will take this time do to remove all of my rotors and inspect the brake system. I ordered another set of front PP pads, and I will throw my Powerstop Ceramic pads in the trash.

Since the wheels and tires will be off, I am going to give my rims a really good cleaning, and then I will ceramic coat them.

The brake dust is an endless battle!

Those dog crap PowerStop "performance" pads are really dusty as well. I am just excited to have a bit more initial bite.

Sm105K.... holy crap man! This is a great write up! Well done Sir, well done!

Thanks buddy. I had zero intentions of this. It has just evolved over the past couple of years. I was privy to lots of information along the way, and I enjoy helping and educating others. Learning along the way is always fun as well.

anyone fighting brake dust, after cleaning your wheels spray a light mist of WD40 all over them and rub it in till shiny again and the brake dust has nothing to stick to so most will blow off while driving and what does stick will just wipe right off with no effort....it also helps against damage from the little hot metal particles from semi-metallic pads....This is an old Sport bike riders trick to keep front ferrings and visor clean of bugs....it might start to collect dust at first but once you get a couple coats on the wheels and then maintain them periodically you will very much notice the difference.... hope this helps guys

Super relevant post about brakes. I was sent PP pads for my new R1 Concepts rotora and pads. Looks pretty much inadequate for breaking. So another non PP 2010-12 guy got them also, he was like yeah it looks like it wouldn't work as well but I guess that's where the clamping force is? I reached out to Kevin from R1 Concepts and when I didn't hear back from him, and bc I talked to another guy with them...I was done waiting to drive my car and broke them in. Then days later Kevin got back to me...sent me the non PP pads that utilize the entire rotor. So I tried to tell Kevin...won't I need new rotors then bc I broke them in...you shouldn't he says.

So as you can see, the semi metallic PP pads don't cover the whole rotor and with the zink coating still on the section of rotor not making contact looks goofy. And after washing the car it is losing some of the zink and just looks unsightly. I have the the non PP Semi metallic pads now. Can I swap them out even though I already broke the PP pads in on the new rotor? Been driven about 10 0530200751 HDR miles. Help?

Yes you can swap them. Just give them the proper break in.

Had to take some measurements for another forum member. He is thinking about retro fitting 13+ brakes onto his 93 SHO. So while I doing that, I dropped in a new set of stock PP pads.

I also cleaned up my rims, hit them with two coats of ceramic coating, and then top layer glissed them. They look pretty sharp, I think.

Yes my garage is a mess. Also the wheels have to fully set over the next 24 to 36 hours. So M will just have to hang out until then.

So sexy. Wet. Shiny. Glistening, and oh so sultry and slippery smooth.

So visually appealing.

Oh btw, what does it mean to have "glissed" them? Is that like having kissed them? LOL

I knew you would ask.....

So here are the products I used to strip/wash, clean, ceramic coat, and glissen my Curvas.

I used this to strip all brake dust and crap off them first.

20200614 175630

Next up is a two bucket wash system with this. Remember is the most important part.
20200614 175321

I wipe them down and let them completey dry. AZ heat doesnt take long to dry anything.

When the wheels are completely dry,, I use this to decon and make sure the surface is clean and prepped for ceramic coat. You can use 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and distilled water too. I used this because I had it, and because it works damn well.

20200614 175335

Then the ceramic coating. New application pad and new microfiber towels. Everything you need to know ceramic coating and how to apply is below. Remember prep is the most important part.

20200614 175344

I let the ceramic coat cure for 15 hours, then a second coat went on. Let that cure for 4 hours then added this. The Gliss goes on the same way the ceramic coating goes on.

Once they cure for another 24 hours they are ready for the road.

Nice!

Never even knew there was/is such a thing.

Here I've been waxing my (powder coated) TSW Nurburgring's this entire time.

Interesting and appreciated.

What's cost on some of that stuff? PM if need be.

In closing, I couldn't help but notice that you started out with a product with the name "hot rim" in it.

Bwahaha. Even more interesting. LOL.
