I think maybe this is a first? Zerotosixty Motorsports came out with a front mount which didnt go anywhere to my knowledge, for a 2013+. GotGrips, Skyshadow07 heavily inspired me to do this. Of course, even so I decided to ask my tuner (AJPTurbo) first. Obviously he gave me two thumbs up. And don't ask the GH IC is already sold lol! But I'm not letting it go until I see some results.
The visual is what I was after...but I didn't want it to underperform of course...after some consideration....GotGrips is nice but I wanted something a little larger, Skyshadow07s is larger but I didn't want something that big, thinking perhaps the larger it is the more is blocked by the bumper. So I decided on a TreadStone TR10C IC supporting 666HP (sounds evil) and flows 1050 CFM and the dimensions are 22x10.5x3.5. After some digging I found Matt Robinson mention his IC flows just over 600 CFM.
Just looking at GH and TreadStone next to each other you can really see how much more surface area GH is. And what's really nice is the stock mounting location, and there's basically 0 extra piping. It's direct fit. It is also behind the AC condensor, not first in line for air. Another thing I didn't want to do was run a bunch of piping.
I ran my Hotpipes and Dual CAI and they are not modified. Definitely didn't want to cut them in any way. I used but a fraction of the 2.5" Universal IC piping kit. As you can see in one of the pics...I used very little piping for increased flow. I came up off the front turbo with 2.5" into a 2.5-3" ypipe, that meets the rear turbo hot pipe. From there it hugs the core support, sneaking under the headlights and where the headlights actually hit is about a quarter inch of the 3-2.5" silicone hose. Best I could do after A LOT of adjustments.
The IC beinf taller than GotGrips I already planned on notching the impact bar a couple inches, but bc the 2010-12 headlights are so close than 13+, and the inlets are halfway on the IC, I had to drop it down more than I wanted to. It sits about 3 inches in. I bought some door edge guard and put that on the cut edge of the impact bar so it doesn't scratch the IC and makes it look nice. I made some brackets and the IC is secured on the backside of the impact bar.
It took me a day to get everything 90%. But once I started securing it with clamps I had to make adjustments, then I installed my Dual CAI and had to make even more adjustments. It fits...tighter than a nuns! Look at the IC pipe coming out from underneath the airbox!
It wasn't straightforward. What I actually did wasn't hard but deciding what to do and what to cut took time. But once you finalize a route you want to go...it moves along faster.
Of course I'll share some data once I get some. I have GH IC logs of my own to compare to. So long as this new front mount doesn't underperform...GH IC is getting shipped.
