I just bought a 2018 with the PP!!! 15,900 miles.. Oh, happy days:).. But I digress... I want to connect my awesome mp3 (DAP) player for High Res Audio, but there is no 3.5 line in... Obviously, I am using my iPhone with car play to play my music, but I want better quality, hence my DAP. And I prefer not to connect my high end DAP using bluetooth, I want a "hard line" connection. Also, I tried various 3.5 to USB adapters but SYNC 3 does not recognize the DAP... So, does anyone know if there is a "line in" available on the Sony system? That is, if I have the balls / motivation to crack open my console.. Any and all thoughts / solutions will be welcomed..

I just put all my MP3s onto a 128Gb Thumbdrive. You will have to format the drive to be readable by the Sync 3 system but that is a simple google. I bought a mini thumb drive that does not stick out more than 1/2 an inch. As for Hi Fidelity inside a car my take on this (I am an audiophile) is that if the car is moving you lose most fidelity to road noise. This is why the radio had speed compensated volume. If you want perfect fidelity, buy a high quality set of over the ear headphones and listen to music while not driving and make sure your audio source was off of an analog signal source as all digital conversion formats chop off all frequency peaks and valleys. Purist still listen to tape! I am just oo lazy to do that so I admit, I play my MP3s and just make the music louder ;-)

The standard line-level audio inputs are gone? They're RCA jacks in the console.

You can prob swap to the old style with USB, SD card slot and RCAs as it works with SYNC3 but NOT with CarPlay. You would need the hub, harness pigtail to splice as the wiring is different. I do not remember if there is a trim plate or if that is only on the smaller 2016+ hub.

The Sync 2 USB did not have a trim plate. But I don't know that I have ever seen a backwards compatible harness to go BACK to Sync 2.

The pigtail should be available from Ford, you would have to splice the wiring yourself. You can do the same going from SYNC2 to SYNC3 but I found it easier and not much more money to just buy a premade wiring adapter harness.

Wouldn’t a usb drive give you the best source quality to begin with? I have a 2018 and it plays FLAC off my usb drive.

I noticed that apple CarPlay deletes signal frequencies above 12khz. Try a tone generator and see what happens.
