Here is the PTU Test Results of sample sent in to Blackstone Laboratories. It's a low mileage sample of Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil. "Severe Duty" sample of pushing the platform!

I've changed this fluid 5 times in 22k miles. Last 3 times within 5k miles. I've only ever extracted it, never fully emptying it. After I tap it as shown by Mrhighcaliber, we'll see if insolubles decrease. Screenshot 20200204 191027

Once taped and flushed I'm hoping to see better results, I'll go another round of RLWSP gear oil for comparison.

I would think, though not ideal, high has to to be better than too low. I’d guess residual buildup mixing in is the culprit.

I don't know of a lot of ppl testing this, none actually, so I'm confident with that old nasty residue out it won't look as bad. Definitely a good thing to change it as often as I have, apparently

Imma go with this...

Also the fact I had to change the PTU in my 11' at about 105k.

So with my 16' (bought it new), I change the PTU fluid at least twice a year.

Now, the shop guys giving me a hard time because I don't put many miles on it and still flush/fill the PTU quite regularly. My 16' has 20,3xx miles on it.

I wonder if its just the first flush that matters the most, getting the fluid out of it that Ford put in it and replacing it with a better product for heat with the cats being next to it also.
I had issues with my ptu on my 13 and flushed it pretty early, actual flush, changed fluid like 3 times in a weekend. Alot of the issues i had with stock fluid through 20k miles never came back until i traded it in with 85k miles

Feedback from Blackstone Laboratories. They as well, think tapping this unit and adding a drain plug is an excellent idea. I highly recommend to everyone to tap it. And I need to coat my DP's which I'm sure are roasting that fluid. Screenshot 20200206 101705
