I have a 2013 Sho Non PP with 84k miles that's having problems. I have a loud tick that is not the normal sound from the injectors. It seems loudest from the passenger front wheel well. It ticks at idle but stops after I start accelerating. I just today got a check engine light for p0020 and p0022. The tick has since those codes gotten louder. I also noticed as a did an oil change yesterday that there was a slight fuel smell to my oil. I'm new to these EcoBoost motors and I'm in love with my sho but just trying to figure out the problem with it. If any more information would help just ask and I'll try to find out. Thank you.

(Ps: the water pump and timing chain were replaced prior to my purchase at around 80k miles)

The 0020 FDTC is a bank 2 (left hand side when you are behind the transmission looking at the crank pulley) vct solenoid open circuit code.

The 22 is a cam phase over ********.

It seems to be that the VCT solenoid connectors have poor pinfit, or you have a wire concern near the vct solenoid itself (the electrical connection that looks like it goes into the valve cover.

Your noise may or may not be related. The VCT phasers can make a ticking noise when they start to fail. Just because the timing drive was replaced doesnt mean the phasors were.

I would resolve the p0020 FTC and see what happens.

As for your fuel smell in the oil, I've noticed the same thing with semi synthetic motorcraft oil and seems to go away with full synthetic motorcraft oil.

Well I drove it when I got back into town today to a friends house, was there for 3 hours and went to go start it and it wouldn't. So the dealership will figure out the problem tomorrow morning I guess. Thank god for my bank offering a nice extended warranty plan. Thank you for the advice though I will get back with you on what the dealership says about it if you're curious.

Def, do keep us updated! Pics of associated paperwork are also very helpful :) Yeah, a good extended warranty is kicka**!
