updating sync 1.0 to 3.0

Looking over my Sync system i see I'm running the 1.0 (car sat for couple years). i want to update to the current 3.0 and was wondering if you can update directly from a 1.0 to the 3.0 . or will i have issues being i didn't do the previous updates. has anyone done this update going from 1.0 to 3.0?

I swapped from SYNC2 to SYNC3 non-nav and again to a SYNC3 APIM with nav. Both were at version 1.0 when I got them and a updated both to 3.0 without issue.

Thanks , do you remember if your update had several files in it. when i unzipped file it shows 9 including the auto install. the reason i ask is the update videos i watched showed only having 3 files. not sure if this was because they went from latest update to the 3.0 update.

I don't remember exactly, more than 1 file for sure but didn't think it was 9.

As with flashing the PCM, make sure the battery is in good condition prior to large updates to Sync. Or put battery on a tender.

Sounds like perhaps you are using a mac to unzip it. If this is the case its unzipping it improperly. Use a windows based computer. If you are using a windows computer is should look just like their instructions show.

I did complete the update i used firefox to down load because safari would unzip at down load and i also had to use Stuffit expander to unzip, formatted usb drive to EXFAT pugged in usb port in car and 20min later installed update complete. Thanks for the replies

Apple carplay I think was 2.2 or 2.3

What year are we talking about? I have an early 2010. I've done a few updates with a USB drive over the years. Last one end on 2016. According to the Ford Sync webpage I am running V4.6 (latest), no sign of Apple Carplay that I've seen.

There are three Sync systems. The SHO has had all three.
Sync 1 was 2010-2012
Sync 2 is 2013-2015
Sync 3 is 2016+

You can upgrade from Sync 2 to Sync 3, but you cannot reasonably upgrade Sync 1 to Sync 2 (or Sync 3).

Each Sync system has different versions as to what is the latest firmware. It looks like Sync 1 is V4.6 from the above post. I know Sync 2 has V3.10 as it's latest. Not sure on Sync 3.

Sync 3 is the only system that can run Android Auto or Apple Carplay (typical *** Apple name lol).

You better explain that one. Ray Jay may be thinking he can do a software update to get sync 3 when this is not the case.

Right. To upgrade from Sync 2 to Sync 3, you have to replace the screen, APIM, USB ports and make softare modifications via ForScan (or pay someone 4 times the value of the parts for a plug and play setup). There is a thread on here about upgrading.

You will also need a Fakra connector GPS antenna and for the USB hub you will need either the harness pigtail to wire in yourself or I recommend the premade plug and play harness from 4Dtech.com.

Both.

The O.P. has sync 3. His software version was at 1.0 from the dealer. He updated SYNC generation 3 to software version 3.0 which is the current software for certain gen 3 systems. Some gen 3 systems are at software version 3.3.

Clear as mud? Lol
