Did they give any indication of why it may have failed? Any way to insure it doesn't happen again or was it one of those s**t just happens things ? Or just an inferior product for high horsepower applications ?

If they let you, see if you can post pics of the aftermath. Hope they get her on the road soon for you. Was our estimate of cost pretty accurate too?

I will see what they say. I have done some research, and it seems the snap ring failure/broken wave plate is the common denominator in the 6F55's. I might be able to take some pics. I had a shop that I have done lots of business with in the past yank her out. With the new unit it will be right at 5k. So I did get a break.

Well at least there's a readily available replacement, that's good news. Hopefully they get it right for you soon.

I figured it wouldn't be inexpensive.

It's a shame no-one has stepped up to provide a trans kit for us. Or at least a beefed up option. They're missing out on a whole community of car enthusiasts.

Seems like everyone mods the motor and we all know the weak points are the PTU and Tranny.

Unfortunately, the guys at the trans shop reassembled it for the core charge. From what I was told, no wave plates/steels or clutch discs were broken. The snap ring worked its way out of the groove and then tumbled around the trans wrecking havoc.

I wish there was an aftermarket for these. However there isn't. Revisions were made through the years with the 6F55 but the snap ring problem had not been resolved. So yeah.

Hopefully Monday or Tuesday next week I will have my SHO back and my wallet will be 5 grand lighter. I will have the peace of mind I now have a warranty.

I remember there was an older transmission that had a problem with a snap ring coming lose at high r.p.m. the solution was to tig weld the ring I place.

Might be an option. The good news, to get to that ring it's easy with the unit assembled. Only the end cover has to come off. Something to discuss with your shop.

I dont know how internall balance would be affected or if it would matter.

I am going to let this one ride. If it fails it will go to Ford with warranty work. I will then have that conversation with them.

New Trans Update: New trans is in the car. $4887.13 out the door with a 3 year/unlimited mileage warranty from Ford. Also, the trans shop was nice enough to change out the PTU and RDU fluids with Redline Lightweight Shockproof Fluid at 68,900 miles.

New trans feels good. I am still running my "wild" E30 tune. I am going to be nice to this trans for a nice extended break period. It feels good to have the car back on the road. I forgot the attention that a clean, ceramic coated, mirror black car gets. My windows are limo tinted, so they can't see me staring at them, while they are staring at my car. Lol.

Next on the SHO agenda, a complete coolant flush from Ford. I will probably take her in this week.

That's sounds like a really good deal on the tranny and all associated work. A lot less then what we've all been led to think.

Glad she's up and running.

I was hooked up. My mother used to actually own the trans shop that did the work. I have always kept a good relationship with her business partner (who bought her out in 2003) and only take my vehicles to them for Trans work.

It would have cost me close to 6k, if Ford would have done the work.

Big and Little On Saturday I purchase a new stablemate for the SHO. I bought a 2013 Tuxedo Black Focus ST. I was really surprised with the performance for a stock ST. I plan on keeping it stock as it will assume daily driving duties for the foreseeable future. Now I can go hog wild modding the SHO.

Just purchased the GH Intercooler. Should be able to install it in a couple of weeks. Going to throw her on the rollers to knock out that 400 whp tune only goal before the install.

I certainly look forward to seeing the gains you'll get with the new GH intercooler! Best of luck cracking the 400 mark!

With the weather right now, it should crack it. I know what it did at 90 degrees, so at 6o degrees..I have zero doubt she will get it done.

The IC should make a huge difference. I am pretty excited about it. If the numbers being reported hold true, I am guessing 430 hp ish and over 510 tq to the tire..... yikes. I feel sorry for the local 5.0 Mustangs, SRT 8, and 6th Gen Camaro guys. Should be able to yank and keep pulling them.

It's a nice and toasty 22 degrees out right now and my car is loving it! The more data that gets out there on the new GH intercooler, the more I'll be convinced to get one. Since you've dyno'd enough times in different conditions, your results will be very telling.

Oh, and the Focus ST is sweet! You should have Brad whip up a tune for that because they make crazy tq when tuned! He has a Fusion that he is running full E85/dp/tune. Since you love corn so much and he knows a thing or two about the 2.0...

I tend to agree, it will take me a couple of weeks to get it installed. I want to dyno it with the IC in the winter, and in the summer to see what the difference is.

As much as I want to tune the ST, it will stay stock. I need it to be reliable for work. That will allow me to go nuts on the SHO.

I think with the IC, H&R Springs, and DP's the SHO should go into the 11's at all times, and I will be happy with that.

Are intimating that with those parts installed the SHO wouldn't be a reliable daily?

Well I think it’s more you don’t want to daily the “investment” car or the “show” car really. At least that would be my view. That’s why I daily my F 150 and garage the SHO when possible
