No A/C during WOT

I've noticed lately, I'm not sure if the car has always been this way, but during wot my a/c stops working.
I notice it especially on hot days (which we get quite a lot of here in FL), I'll do a little pull, and my a/c is gone for a couple of seconds. Is this a normal thing to give me max power? or is something a miss?

I think cars used to do that back in the day. I suspect they disable the clutch when you have it floored.

This is perfectly normal, the pcm disables the signal to the compressor clutch under wot.

no , only if abuse your engine , you know from stop to run , and some cars with hard barking ..

Good to know guys, thanks! While I have this post open, is it easy to refill the A/C coolant on these cars myself? I have never done it before, but my A/C is not very cold.

Generally if your A/C system needs refilled then you need to find the leak first and fill after fixing. But if you simply need a recharge, you should pull the old fluid from the system and refill. Adding more to the system on top of a full system won't make it colder.

There is no "coolant" in an refrigerant system. There is refrigerant in a refrigeration system. The only reason 134A is a fluid is because it is compressed. If vented to atmosphere it will be a gas. Oxygen can become a liquid when compressed, same with C02, nitrous.... It can not be poured into container and saved.

If you came up to me and said my coolant was low I would immediately think your talking about the engine cooling system that uses "water."

You can refill the refrigerant system. You can do it right and wrong. If the system is low you Likely have a leak so it will likely result in refilling it later.

Overfilling the system can also result in a lack of performance too.

The other posility is there isnt a pressure issue at all but an electrical/mechanical one.

Thank you for educating me on this! I willl admit, I know very little about mechanics. That is one of the reasons I come here, to ask questions. I guess what I will be doing is taking my car to a shop, or the dealer to get it checked.
