What parameters does the onboard computer use to determine oil change interval?

What does the onboard computer look at to decide when oil should be changed? Is it looking at things like idle time, average engine temps, average RPMs, miles driven, # of WOT events etc? Just wondering if anyone knows the specifics.

Maybe they have updated the IOLM, but older MY cars have proven to use # of miles to set the % of oil life. Not intelligent at all. You are better off using engine hours (usually Trip 2, though it rolls over at 100 hrs).

Mine did not roll over at 100, did my oil change today, I use trip 2 for that it was at 159 or so. I I know it was above 100hrs

What I can provide is what is published.

And the big blue oval book says that the PCM assumes a base milage of 100000 miles and 1 year of normal driving. The PCM then takes into consideration high engine temp, engine rpm, flex fuel use (non GTDI) and posibly low oil level.

When at 1-5 percent the instrument cluster will display change oil soon.
