Hi

I just bought a 93 sho atx and was testing everything. The only thing I found wrong was when I press the overdrive button their is no light on the tach indicating it is on. So I tested it while driving thinking the light is probably just bad and it won't shift into overdrive...I looked over the tranny to see If anything was loose or unplugged and everything was good. Also checked all fuses, good.

So am I missing anything I should be looking for?

Thanks

Let's start over.

When you start the car and drive it, it will use all 4 gears - that means it will go into overdrive.

When you push the little button and turn on the light, that prevents overdrive - makes it only use gears 1 - 3.

If you press the o/d off button when you are driving on the freeway at ~60 mph, does the trans shift down? If so it will be apparent, the tach will jump up significantly and the engine noise will increase, etc.

If you press the button and it does shift down but no light, that simply means the light is burned out or the wiring is bad.

However, if you press the button and nothing happens, then most likely the little wire inside the shifter handle is broken. The wire is very small, and having it break is a common occurrence. Unfortunately, taking off the shift **** to fix it is not trivial, and many people just wire up an alternate switch to get around the issue.

If it only uses 3 gears ever, then possibly the thread sperold posted above will apply.

Hey Rubydist

I tried all of that and nothing.
I press the button and nothing happens.
I don't get it because the wiring has never been messed with.

Thanks

I think the wire just breaks on it own, my has been like that for a couple of years and it has never been apart. I still have overdrive, but the little button doesn't work.

what is your rpm when cruising on the freeway

The button turns the overdrive off, when selected. When the car is started, the transmission will use all 4 gears, unless the o/d off is selected. So, with the button not working, it just uses all 4 gears normally.

The tiny wire inside the shifter just breaks because it is too small. You can remove the shift **** and replace the wire, or you can just wire up another switch.

Well at least you know you overdrive works, I have never really ever used that button so that is probably why I didn't fix it yet
