This seems to be the Police Department tire of choice for winter. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...utoModel=Police Interceptor&autoModClar=Sedan

My car came from a Sheriffs department in the mountains of Colorado with them on and Beaverton Oregon just bought enough for their fleet here in the Pacific Northwet. Good in the wet too.
Full throttle upshift 2nd to third on wet pavement produces only a minor squiggle like a bit of torque steer.

I ended up going with Hankook Winter i*cept Evo2's, they weren't too bad at $212/tire. I got a shop discount from my bro.

I like what SilverSho said and of course AWD doesn't help stopping distance but I am with him!

I have the original I*cept Evos on my BMW 740 and suggest that you be careful in the first rain. I find them to be traction challenged at slower speed while accelerating.
They handle my mountain road quite well but don't like paint stripes or slicker asphalt at intersections.

Thanks for the heads up, I hope the 2nd Gen version fixed that challenge. Is your 740 RWD?

why did some of you guys go 20s for the winter, i plan to get some 18s and go smaller
Personally I'm not a fan of 18's because the car is too big, as a sport sedan, for such small wheels. It reminds me of 90's cars with aspect ratios of 60+. The only exception is the PI wheels, they have a nice aggressive/official look IMHO that offsets the increased aspect ratio. Additionally, I figured I might save some wheel money for other mods and just buy 275/40's as summer tires for the same wheels. That's why I went with wider 20x8.5 wheels.

Smaller wheels with taller/slightly narrower tires will give you better snow traction as well as added put hole protection for your wheels though.

We don't talk about potholes, lol, seems the city of Erie pa is creating them ahead of time. Holes everywhere. Have lost rims over the years. Mustang had a flat because of one last year, had to replace a tire.
