Oh yeah, the "extra protection" of overspray LOL. Glass? Was there any breakage? Maybe they broke something while repairing your SHO and had to replace it?

Hello SHOdded,
The windshield took most of the hit from the tree. There was a limb sticking through the W.S. and glass everywhere.
I am sure the vents are full of tiny glass shards. The dealer promised they would clean all that out of the vents.
I know they did not! As the console was still full of glass...

I feel for you brother, bad storms and falling trees seems to be the curse of our area this year. Stormed all night here in OFallon,Mo today after being pelted with lage hail a few months ago. I've always found it amazing how many hiding spots body shop repair dust finds to hide.
Thanks 6500rpm

Hey 2012korn,
I had the 011 out of the garage to get my Kubota out to do some sidewalk work.
The storm just got here faster than I thought...

There Original Estimate grew by 1600+ dollars.
I wish I could do that on my job. Give a customer a price and then just charge whatever I wanted at the end.
And tell you it will take 2 weeks and it ends up being over 2 months.

Insurance should be covering it correct?

Hello StealBlueSho,
Funny you say that as, I hired a PROFESSIONAL tree service in January to take the tree that fell on my SHO down.
I wanted it done then as the ground was frozen and the truck would not damage my lawn.
Well you can see for yourself the result.
How does the real world work when there is so much incompetence?

Ever read the news? The real world just limps along from one disaster to another lol... So your predicament seems within the normal range of *****..

Sorry about the ordeal. Looking forward to some all back to shiny and new looking pics!

If I'm smart, I will take this as a reminder to check some of the trees around my house. There are so many that could damage things if they fall.

Sure the insurance paid for all the damage to the SHO but I had to get the tree off the car and clean up the mess.

Amen to that. America is fortunate to have a lot of redundancy built into all of its' systems. But that cushion seems to be eroding VERY fast.

Lets be honest, there's nothing wrong with an ESTIMATE growing because it's just that, an estimate. Someone looks at the vehicle and takes a guess at what needs repaired and the cost of those items. Just like any big fix auto project you don't truly know exactly what needs replaced until it's taken apart. When I hit the deer the estimated $5500 in damage and it was over $8k when all was said and done. I've never gone to any shop that gives a competitive fixed price instead of an estimate. At least that extra money isn't coming out of your pocket.

It is a highly flawed system though. Body shops are encouraged to underestimate the repair to get the job. They then get the job and start RACKING on the additions. We had one car that was estimated and repaired. The final bill was nearly double the estimate and was actually more than the vehicle was worth. It should have been totaled, but that would not have put money in the shops bank account.

Outside of the auto body shop world, most contractors are held to come in very close to their quoted estimate.

Haha the whole situation is just a PIA... It's always an emotional situation..the customers are already ****** walking through the door..unless its something simple like a bumper cover, dent in the side panel etc.. estimates are usually off.... A tree smashing your vehicle? And most likely a car they don't see often if ever... Makes for a miserable situation for both parties..

Remember if you are going through insurance then the body shop has to justify everything they do to someone at that insurance company who may refuse to pay the body shop if they do work outside what the insurance thinks needs to be done...

I plowed into a car at an intersection who was making a left in my 2004 VW Jetta GLI Special Edition(and I truly mean that car was delivered on a short bus..)

It took 3 months to get it back because the body shop had never worked on a special edition jetta.... It had custom BBS wheels, lip kit all the way around, smoked grill, smoked head lights, etc.. all from the factory that way... Well they assumed it was aftermarket.. so they replaced it all with normal jetta stuff.. they ended up having to replace all the front end stuff again with the right stuff... insurance stiffed them cause they messed up.. total cost was 75% of the vehicles value after they had to redo it..

Point is, this is all typical crap when you have a major accident, situation normal all ****** up...

Crack a beer, ride your tractor, and tear some things up!

$hit!!?? How much was the repair? Also did they get the paint to match correctly? My first SHO was a 12 red candy and needed the bumper painted and they had a very difficult time.

Hello BlueSHO, The repair was just over 4000. The paint is perfect!
it was how dirty they left my SHO that I was disappointed about.
And the overspray.
