ive got a 91 with the jbl premium sound. when I got it it already had the pioneer head unit installed so I didn't wire it up. the subs do not work and I feel like its because the head unit isnt sending them power. I have the factory head unit but all I can get it to do is light up. no sound whatsoever. what is the easiest way to get the subs to work with the pioneer head unit? alldata wiring diagrams show different wire numbers an colors than what ive got so that's no help.

Are you trying to just turn it on? Do you already have audio signal hooked up?

My favorite way with an aftermarket radio, run a dedicated RCA pair to the rear amp. a lot of the car-specific ones (scoshe comes to mind) have a center wire that I like to tie to the car's accessory power so it comes on with the key-furgeddabout a signal from the radio mate!

Um, it's been awhile since I put my radio in but my car also had the JBL system and I just tied the radio directly into the speakers. As I recall, there were two sets of harnesses in the dash. One tied into the factory amps, the other goes directly to the speakers. I just used the latter set to drive the speakers directly with the head unit. I then ran an RCA to the back to connect to my subwoofer amp. I also replaced my speakers with aftermarket ones. I will note, though, that my car was missing the subwoofer so I couldn't tie into that. I don't remember now exactly why I decided to bypass the factory amplifier beyond that.

You will need to bypass the factory amp.
Use and amp bypass harness.
I have some in stock.
