Hi! Ok, my next SHO project is buying new tires... Only find 1 V rated 215/65/r15 ... Sumitomo. Any other ideas? What will going down to a 60 do???

Thanks, Mike

Have you considered putting a set of slicers on the car. It opens up the options with a 16 inch rim and a lot bigger selection of tires.

OK, a few dumb questions... What are slicers? Gen2 16 inch wheels?
I assume the speedometer would have to be recalibrated... Can an ordinary mechanic do that?
Trying to keep things original...
Thanks!

Correct, slicers are the stock Gen 2 wheels that should be relatively inexpensive compared to aftermarket wheels. Hopefully someone else who has a Gen 1 that swapped over to slicers can chime in on the effect on the speedo or advise what tire they used with a 15 inch rim.

Doing the math, the tire diameter for a 215/65/15 a original 89 spec, is 660.5 mm. That is 2 sidewalks plus the 15 inches, in mm.
The diameter for a 225/60/15 is 651 mm... 9.5 mm less.
The diameter for a 225/55/16 is 653.9 mm ... Only 6.6 mm less

I am pretty sure a 225/60/15 will fit the original 6.5 inch basket weaves... Anyone have experience with 225/55/16 on a basket weave??

I checked both Tire Rack and Discount Tire, and the 15" stock tire selection is getting really poor. All I could suggest is getting whichever one you want, regardless the speed rating, and use those for car shows or when you want the car to look stock. Buy some slicers or aftermarket wheels in a better size (16" - 17") for everyday driving around.

That is not a bad idea... Thanks...

I have Dunlop Sport 5000's on my 1989 Titanium.
Real nice, but its a garage queen.
Comes out for inspections and the fall Hershey show mostly.
Have them mounted on NOS wheels.
