A sad day but a new era. Ponied up for a '15 F150 XLT today to replace my 98 SHO as my DD. Has the 3.5L ecoboost - DZAMN that thing's ballsy. The awa was chiming away in the passenger seat when I mashed it. I can only image how much fun the SHO is to drive with much less weight and lower CG. My wife's a fan of the SHO, so we'll have to see what the future holds . . .

I got a '14 xlt last year with the 5L v8. Power is so so. I think the tranny gearing and the dive by wire and other computer timing really pull the power back to maximize fuel economy and low emissions. I thought about ecoboost but decided I didn't want extra complexity if I hold this thing for a long time. Might have been a mistake in giving up some usable torque

Not at all. Alot of in town driving. What's your average mileage with the eco? I'm just under 14 mixed driving most of the time. Not sure how much more weight I have with supercrew 4door vs reg cab truck. Thank god fuel prices crashed!

Word! As for fuel economy, it's only been a few hours since I bought it, and I've driven it all of an hour at this point. But steady state driving was actually over 35 mpg! Mashing the pedal drops the average mpg way down to sub 20. I also have supercrew 4-door.

I don't expect you'll "feel" the extra power until you load up the hitch with at least 5k lbs and feel how much it still pulls. Google the torque curves and it should be readily apparent. The ecoboost's complexity did cross my mind, but with the extended warranty, there is some peace of mind. I have the decent fuel mileage with the option to tow in the future.

Congrats on the new ride, Ryan! It's always a bittersweet feeling to move on from a SHO, but really the heart beats as strong as ever in these Eco-bodied beasts. Hope your wife loves it as much as you do :)

To be clear, I did NOT trade in the SHO. Way too much invested financially to trade it in just to get much less than what it's worth to me (emotionally, and yes SPIRITUALLY). The free time I have on the weekend seems to be getting squeezed down by family life, and while the priority is family, I'll now be able to leave projects in various states of completion instead of having to worry about getting things put back together to be able to drive to work!

No question you have poured your whole being into the SHO, it will be sure to appreciate you right back, I think, one day :)

And I am not sure there is less weight for the SHO either. Actually, I would not be surprised if it is heavier than the pickup in some configurations, such as just the straight two door without a crew cab and such. The Gen IV SHO is a pretty heavy vehicle.

That thought went through my mind as well - I believe the SHO is pushing 4k lbs? Also, the F-150's frame was redesigned for 2015 as well and is apparently stronger AND lighter by several hundred pounds. Still, I imagine the AWD part more than makes up for this. All I know is that my truck will spank my sho.

I did the same thing a couple of months ago. New f150 with the 3.5 EB. The transmission is extremely conservitive in regular mode to conserve full. Throw it in sport mode and it's a new ball game. It's amazing what 20 years of technology does. Sub 6 sec 0-60 in a full sized truck is something you have to drive to believe. That said, after a couple months I parked it and drove the SHO around because I missed her.

Speaking of trucks . . . Driving back from work in the SHO Monday evening, an old beat-up silverado got on my rear bumper at a light and stayed there. Making a right, we both mashed it and he actually stuck with me for a few seconds before *the gap* began to slowly grow. Same thing happened once or twice more in and out of traffic. So I figured, "Ok, he got the point". Nope. Homeboy wasn't havin' it. Rode my ass through neighborhood streets like a little bitch until we parted ways. I only wish I'd had the f150. I may have actually let him pull alongside and given him the 3-beep-beat-down.

My plan is to drive the SHO in to work on Mondays. It started out being Fridays, but I learned last week that if I wanna go out to lunch with coworkers, it sucks not being able to at least provide AC, much less radio (project pending for over a year now!)

What is interesting is that test results for the 2016 F-150 with the 2.7 show it is faster 0-60 than the 3.5. A friend just traded his 2015 F 150 3.5 for a 2016 2.7 and says it is smoother and low end torque is better. The lighter, stiffer 2016 Fusion sport 2.7 with the cool pothole mitigation will likely run circles around the current SHO.

The 4x4 2.7L EB f150 has a 3.55 standard axle. The 3.5L EB Comes standard with a 3.31 axle which makes it feel a tad bit heavier off the line. However, that goes away very quickly and the extra ~50 hp and ~50 lb-ft of torque make their voices heard. I almost saved some money and went with the 2.7 but the auto-start-stop feature annoyed me. You can turn it off but you have to do it every time you start it up.
