Do not use any type of fuel system additives.

The EcoBoost platform as a whole are extremely sensitive to certain things that most people would assume make little to no difference like octane variance and spark plug gap. We have yet to find an additive that is exact enough to endorse for use in the EcoBoost motors. Probably about 40% of our EcoBoost tuner calls are because the driver hears pinging or knocking, and they immediately assume that it is because of the tune. Our 1st question (after years of freaking out on our end of the phone) is did you add any type of octane booster or other additives to your gas? And 99.999999999% of the time the answer is yes. So we tell them to just take it easy until the tank of fuel is gone, refill with the best fuel that they have in their area and then drive the additives out of the system. The other 50% is why is my car not running right after installing a 3 BAR MAP sensor. The last 10 or so % are calls asking if we have a faster tune because one of their buddies at work has a new Hellcat or new Z06.

In response to the question highlighted in red, what are the most common culprits? (If already answered elsewhere on this forum, just point me in the right direction.) Thanks!

@af_maineiac the most common mistake when adding the 3 BAR MAP modification is installing it where the stock sensor already is. So, if you pop off the engine cover there is a sensor arms length away at the top of the motor. There is usually a Torx screw that holds it down (if memory serves me right it is a T15). Remove and replace!

Thanks! So I found a great video on YouTube that goes through the process.....but it doesn't appear to be following the steps both you and @Skeezixzx9r mention above. It appears as if he's simply swapping out the stock 2 BAR MAP with the 3 BAR MAP:

My SHO seems to be going through coolant pretty fast. Any idea why this is happening?

Any issues you have noticed other than this? Any smell or visual indication of leaks?

Yeah, that's more than likely normal with the tune.

But I don't know why you'd be "losing" coolant, other than (not trying to scare) a head gasket or leaking water pump. More likely a water pump than a head gasket.

Come to think of it, the turbos are watercooled, but haven't heard of an instance where the jacketing has failed on them yet.

Could be that a small air pocket is finally giving way...tough to burp these systems

@TIHSHO I would go back and check on you connection at the block to make sure that the rad hose is firmly connected. One of our techs had the same issue on a client car that was here...we could not figure out what on Earth was wrong. UNTIL, we had a set of fresh eyes look at the connections.

I would also try to burp the cooling system again as Rich suggested.

The fan settings are set lower to aid in early cooling, that is totally normal.

Thanks for the info. I will certainly give that a look. However, I am not certain on how to burp the system. Can you explain?

@TIHSHO it is really easy as SHOdded's post explains. Basically you are going to add fluid with the car running until the system stops accepting fluid. Having the motor running will ensure that you will work through the air pockets in the system. Any type of funnel will make that job super easy. I am too lazy to actually go and buy a funnel so I usually grab a useless piece of paper, and form a funnel with it.
