Hi JRA at this point I have the seal in and after polishing the offending scratch I think it could work if i am lucky. I have tied up the garage far to long and will consider putting more money and time into it this summer, for now i just need it to run and see if the rest of the car has any issues. I would love to fix it up and make it shine...but first it must survive until summer. Thanks very much for the advice and I am very sure you will hear more from me about this car. I really like it and may not let my 15 yr old drive it....but it is a first car for him and I have a 95 Impala SS that is my Hot Rod. If he can prove he will not abuse it then it will have a good chance of getting some love.

Anyone tried this method for installing the seal without the special tool? I used to drive an old MB W123 and reading this thread reminded me of replacing the crank seal on it. Now I have a '92 SHO and am waiting for my cam seals to show up in the mail.

How did it go? My seal did not leak after i got it in using the pvc sleeve, so it looks like I got the scratches out and the seal in ok.
