Recently got this message on Sunday, I was under a 1/4 tank of gas and I filled it up but it's still popping up. I read that it could be debris where you put the pump in that's preventing the springed lid to properly seal but the message hasn't gone away since refilling on Sunday (there had been at least 4 "reset cycles" considering the two days since Sunday)

Anything I should check?

Probably need to replace the mechanism/filler neck. Might be under emissions warranty, so check with dealer.

An alternate fix: " ... used my ez fill adapter to open the flap.. The tech stuck a screw driver to hold the flap open and cleaned around the flap seal."

Another fix suggested is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset KAM, but then you have to go through the PCM's re-learn process. Or have codes cleared at a local auto store and see if they come back.

From the OM: When the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the automatic transmission must relearn its shift strategy. As a result, the transmission may exhibit a combination of firm and soft shifts. This operation is considered normal and will not affect function or durability of the transmission. Over time, the adaptive learning process will fully update transmission operation.

if you look at the sides of the ez-fill cap thingy, you will notice a couple of small tabs. those tabs are pushed back by the gas fill nozzle to allow the flapper to open. So, you want to press on one of those tabs, press the flapper open, and look at / feel the seal to see if it might be dirty or cut or missing. Clean or replace, depending on what you find.

Is there a flap seal? When I pull the nozzle out of buying gas, gas that drips out still runs down with the flap closed so I thought the only seal is the one around where the door closes.

Much appreciated, I'll be taking a look at it when I get home from work or at lunch if I remember

Haven't looked at it myself, but it makes sense to have a seal on the inside of the opening where the gas flap is. Keeps it from rattling & prevents gas fumes from leaking out.

Were you able to fix this problem? I have been having the same issue on my 2012 PP. First, I was getting a check engine light. Had a friend clear the code. The check engine light did not come back on, but days later the "Check Fill Inlet" message continued to appear daily.

Note: I've had several issues with my EVAP system in general. Fortunately, it wouldn't pass smog and the dealer who sold it to me had to pay to replace the EVAP purge valve/solenoids.

I have had the battery unplugged for a week while on vacation and came back to the light still on. Ended up taking it to the dealer thinking it was the seal but it was actually a damaged fuel canister that got hit with a rock from underneath causing bad pressure and it was failing the emission tests they were doing because of it.

Good to know! How sturdy is that fuel canister in its' current location? Something other SHO owners should be worried about?

Apparently just not sturdy enough or not well protected from road debris. Or it was just a freak accident

Wow, wasn't expecting that. I have an appointment at the dealer set for this Friday. After the problem is diagnosed and rectified I will post what the issue is/was. Just hoping this doesn't cost me too much to fix, but it is what it is.

Maybe we got spiders too. Like the Focus. Cant pump gas into it correctly and it dont seal right because of spiders in the vent tube.
Where i live, its usually them damn squirrels and shoving acorns into the vent tube. I dont even know how but they did when my little Miata was sitting in my barn for a few years.

For me it ended up being the evap purge valve. $35 through Rock Auto and hasn't happened since.

Where is that actually located on our cars? If you have a part #, that'd be great!

I just replaced my vapor canister vent solenoid (under the car, near the gas tank) but I'm not having any luck purchasing a EVAP purge valve which I believe is causing my car to take longer to crank after refueling, CEL for rich on front 02's, and poor gas mileage.
