My car is a 94 that i swapped to mtx still running all the atx wiring and d4ui. I removed the cel, and figured i would deal with it later...So now I want to be able to at least check KOEO codes. Last night i tried putting a test light on the pin of the data connetor under the hood that has 2 tan and red wires and doing the typical jump of the other two pins to start the test. It wont work, also I know the cel has to be on and I tried the test light after driving for like 1/2 hour and never shut the car off nothing. I will be borrowing a NGS tester from my buddy that works at ford today. Any ideas?

You will be able to get the codes with a code reader on the KOEO tests. It will tell you that it is searching for information from your automatic transmission, that, of course, it is not getting.
I have a 93 automatic car that has been changed to standard, and I get the codes for the missing automatic transmission. Like your car, the cel light is removed.

I would like to send the computer the default signals that it is missing, but I have no idea what the signals are, or how to generate them.
I just did an E-test and it passed, so that takes the pressure off.

well, its not that simple. even if you provide the proper resistance to the proper pins so the pcm "sees" the solenoids, it will still set the cel because as you drive it won't see the proper response from the atx - there is no way to provide the proper ratio of speed signal from the vss to engine speed with the torque converter locked/unlocked in the various gears, so it will still be upset. you may not have a solid cel, but you will certainly have the flashing cel complaining of lockup clutch malfunction.

I have a question regarding this...

Can I install a 1st Gen. 5-speed tranny into my '94 automatic?

Yes.
All the manual transmissions are the same, some have cable shifters and some have rod shifters, but both work well and you can convert from cable to rod without any issues.

Personally, I would stay with the automatic. The manual transmissions are not exactly magical in their shifting.
But that is just me.

Thanks for the replies guys but I guess I was looking more for an answer on checking my codes. In my head I should be able to read blink codes with a test light at the data link connector with the bulb removed?

yes, the data link connector does not know if the bulb is in place or not.

1st things 1st why is the CEL on? The d4u1 doesn't throw a light for the missing ATX. If the EGR is non functional you will have a light. The rear exhaust manifold from the MTX has the EGR boss that must be drilled out in order to keep the EGR system intact. This is a hurdle where MTX conversions run into. To the original poster, pull ALL the codes and post them. You will have about half a dozen 6xx codes none of which turn on the CEL.

This is incorrect. After a while you will get the cel flashing because the atx is missing. Been there, done that.

RUBYDIST what code is the CEL illuminating for? My 95 D4u1 MTX conversion has NO CEL light due to the missing trans. NO DTC's stored whatsoever. Did you make the EGR system functional?
