Hey guys...
Long time reader, first time posting.. I found a junkyard that has a C4 Yvette with full brakes (f/r) and in this same yard is a 97' V8 SHO complete. I have a first gen 89' SHO (and also a 92') that I would like to upgrade the front brakes. I have searched the forums and have found some good info, but honestly I am still somewhat confused on what combo of parts works. Do I go after the vette set up or the V8 SHO set up? Thanks...

Does the vette have 13" front rotors or 12"? Even then the only things of any real value would be the calipers. The brackets and rotors won't just bolt on.

The V8 SHO setup is the easiest for you, regardless you will have to change to 94-95 knuckles.

Just from eyeballing it, I would say the vette brakes had the 13" rotors. I figured the V8 brakes were probably the easier swap. Thanks for the response. I still might grab the vette brakes tho for my 88' Fiero GT as that is a nice upgrade for that as well...

IMHO V8 brakes/11.6 fronts are great, ran them for years street and roadcourse/track days with Hawk HPS pads with no issues. That said, Cobra brakes going on this week due to one caliper has torn rubber and Cobras on the garage floor ready to go. Plus V8/11.6 fits under stock slicers.

Neither option will work on the 89 unless you go with larger wheels. The V8 brakes will fit under Slicers but not the 89 Basketweaves. If you go with the Vette calipers and a 13" rotor you will more than likely need 17" wheels.

Ok, thanks... I actually have the basketweaves, a set of slicers, and a set of TSW 17's so I'm covered there...

For the 97 brakes you would need the 94 and newer front spindles.

A company called Baer used to make a bracket that would allow running the Vette front discs, cut down in diameter to 12.X inches (12.5 maybe) and the vette Calipers on the 89-93 spindles - some spindle cutting was required but would fit under 16 inch wheels. However the swept area of the 96+ SHO front brakes was greater than this solution (swept area = area avilable to reject heat from brakes).

Get the '94-up knuckles, go with the 11.6" SHO upgrade with good pads, and that's all you need.

FWIW, I track my '89 with stock brakes and Carbotech XP10/XP8 pads. For a basically stock-power SHO, they still work fine.

^^Yep!!

And I thank Chad AGAIN for being on the ball and catching that pic at that particular time!!

Anyway, note that the fronts are smoking more, and this is a non-ABS car Granted, the track was still damp, plus my brain fart........

Best SHO track pic EVER, IMNSHO!!
