Today I was driving to work and downshifted from 4th to 3rd and when i released the clutch, there was a bang sound and the car ****** at the same time. I pulled over thinking I may have ran over a cat or something. I then drove on some back rodes shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to second and it testing it and it happened again. What do you think is going on? Anybody else have these symptoms?

Did you notice any tranny fluid leakage?
This is a classic symptom of a blown diff pin.
I sure hope this is not the case.

I see oil under the car but it's motor oil. I'm getting that fixed with the valve cover gasket. I just took the SHO for a spin on my lunch break, shifting through gears and the symptoms went away... Wonder if it will happen again when the engine is more hot? Hmm...

Frequently when the diff pin lets go it moves out of position, hits the case (breaking it), and get driven back into the diff (for a little while).

You need to get the car up in the air and inspect it carefully before you proceed.

Turns out this symptom was caused from having no tranny fluid. It got worse with grinding noises before I brought it to the shop to find this out.

:munch:

I think the "no tranny fluid" is the symptom or effect if you will, while the exiting diff pin represents the cause. Wrap that tranny up with some good oil-proof duct tape, fill it back up with tranny fluid and see how long it'll last.

You could always send me the diff for welding before the pin ejects. :)

Low fluid is really bad for the bearings. I hope you didn't drive it very far.
