a 90 mustang would have a aod, which is non-computer controlled.

unfortunately, the auto trans do not have removable bell housings, so the only way to make that work on your SHO motor is to get the Canfield adapter. If you want one of those, pm me.

I have fooled with the [2.3] Mustang up to 93 They were A4ld. Now the 5.0 is totally differant and can give no advice on the. The bellhousing is removable but not adviseable. The A4ld has history of problems and from seal problems. From what I read if changing the bellhousing will need to recenter the the front bushing in trans. Now all the A4LD trans in the Mustangs are electronic controlled. From my understanding the only one not is the early A4ld Aerostar which is a 3.0 bellhousing.
So the best option and one I would have taken if I had known of is the Canfield adapter.
Now the repair manual on the A4ld

How to make the trans more Heavy Duty.

What I hope will work to control my trans a aw4 controller for a Jeep trans. Just need to adapter or T into the tps. Maurice

as though a ranger splash wasn't good enough swap the fairlane in for one of them and put the sho motor in it. -probably very little that would need to be done to the wiring.

Jim Meyer did my front suspension.
I liked his attention to detail.

m5od is a decent transmission that will hold up well. Boosted Rangers with over 350 lb-ft of torque have not tore up the trans. they do not shift particularly well - easy to grind gears between 2 and 3 because of the shift gates, but otherwise will be fine.

but, you must get one from a 3.0 Ranger to get the right bell housing.

That's what I'll be using in my 1997 Ranger when I do the SHO engine.
It's already in there so I thought, why not try it.

hey guys, i havent posted much on here in a while. been working on backhalfing the car and mustang ii conversion.

019B691C 47CC 43F8 A921 1798B82D652B zpsaqmeoujs

the rear end is a 3.73 ls explorer rear that i shortened using two passenger side axles.

i also bought a 5.0 with aod trans to go in it, and after discovering the 5.0 will have to be rebuilt.. i am just going to have to buy that 3.0 to 5.0 adpter and run the aod trans behind the 3.0 sho motor...its just too sexy in rwd to pass up

will you be clearancing the fire wall, or moving the engine forward to compensate for the rear cam sprockets?

not sure what i am going to do yet..might have to notch out the mii crossmember to bring the engine forward.

here is a better picture of the rear suspension, still need to run another bar on the other side the connects to the upper 3 link bar

Nice looking work. I thought about the Mustang ii in the Mustang I am doing. The stock crossmember was a pain. Money finally won out or should say lack of. Reread you thread mention moving firewall. Good idea. I wanted to retain AC and heater. Maurice

well guys, I moved into a new shop and have spent the last couple months get that arranged. now the fairlane is back up in the air. trying to figure out if I want to just do a megasquirt on this to simplify the swap. Or to get a 3.0 wiring harness and computer to eliminate a lot of the unnecessary wires having a manually controlled trans. my buddy who knows a lot about tuning and is a gm guy keeps trying to convince me on using a gm wiring harness and computer with a custom tune.. but he is a nut

offroadsho has a nice writeup on this site that tells you exactly which wires you really need to connect to make the 3.0 SHO pcm work in a different chassis - imho that is clearly easier (and less expensive) than any aftermarket controller.

I agree cheapest 3.0 computer and wire per his info. I used a SHO harness and 93 2.3 Mustang harness. I have read a 3.8 94 Mustang harness is real close. Don't know for sure. Maurice
