Alright, this is a really stupid question but it's been driving me CRAZY. On the actual door latch striker, the rubber/plastic on it has fallen apart on 3/4 of my doors. Resulting in a very metal-like contact noise when i shut the door. Now, is they anything i can put on it? I'm also thinking it might be damaging the latch, but who knows. Thanks for any help!

You can get those at Autozone/Advanced. They are in the HELP section. They have Ford specific striker bolts and i believe they are only $6 or $7 each.

Yeah, just get the HELP! replacement ones. They do require alignment, though, as if you have them too far out the door will rattle as it closes, and if it's too far in the door won't want to close, and the handle will be tough to pull. Just loosen/reposition/retighten the big T45 or T55 bolt until you get it right. It's the same size as the steering wheel bolt and seat belt mount bolts.

Its actually a T47. I know that by heart now. lol

I had to do mine last summer. The plastic was missing on all 4 of mine. When you remove the old ones you should see an imprint where they were mounted. Just line the new ones up on the imprint and you shouldnt have any alignment issues.

Wow. Thanks guys! I didn't think I would get these many responses! Haha. Ill go pick up some of those latches at autozone. I was just worried because the door didn't seem to close right and it might leak.......but its most likely me over worrying.....haha. I really do thank you guys for the comments!

Glad I found this thread because mine are the same way, the sound is so cheap when the door is opened or closed, ACK. Gonna replace mine as soon as it warms up a little.

I'm cheap, so I just go to the junkyard and get the plastic parts off of newer town cars/crown vics/grand marquis. They seem to be less brittle, and the ones for the rear doors aren't really worn.

Actually, kevinspann, that sounds like a great idea......Haha

never thought of that... I'll keep that in mind!

Not trying to hijack the thread but.... You guys know if they would be the same for a 1990 Ranger? I think they were used in many other Ford models

I think they are the same. When I just went to the autozone and looked up the door latch for that year, it was the same latch as my car.
