For Sale: 1990 Moonlight Blue/Full Black Leather Taurus SHO. All options except moonroof. Says 22,000 on odometer, would guess it's 122,000 by the shape of the car.

Many of you know this car, and some of you probably better than I do. I bought it to fix up and take a few goodies off of it. So now that I swapped a new engine in, it’s ready for it’s new owner. I’m hoping for a quick sale so I can move on to my next victim. :)

History: Dave Kegal did the very first 3.2 MTX swap in this car (see SHOtimes for details). He did a lot of road racing in this car, and is set up to do such. Car was sold here in Grand Rapids and came in contact with a deer. New core support installed. Plus hood, grille and plus front bumper all painted flat black. Has some dents on right front fender (also on right rear, but unsure if that’s from the deer). Next owner took possession and engine locked up on him (still haven’t torn it apart to find cause). I got it, repaired some electrical problems, swapped an 80K mile 3.0 in it and I’ve been enjoying it for about a month and a half now.

The good: (note: I’ve just copied some of the stuff from the previous add and tried my best to only put what is still on the car, however, I’m not sure how to tell by looking what some stuff is)

Engine- 3.0 with 80k miles from a California 89. I did an upper 60k on it before putting it in (Autolite platinum plugs, new valve cover gaskets, 8mm wires from 3.2, checked valve lash, everything in spec)
Midwest SHO Y-pipe modified with true 2.5" collector
Fully mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust with Dynomax race muffler (resonator) (still raspy)
Edelbrock Muffler (not sure on this one, it doesn’t have any marking)
155 lph fuel pump
Gen3 subframe bushings

Transmission- Likely about 147k miles, grinds if going into second aggressively or cold. Clutch grabs good, rod shifter.

Suspension-
Intrax Springs
Tokico struts
20mm front bar w/greasable poly bushings
TRW front lower control arms, tie rod ends, sway bar end links
26mm rear sway bar with Delrin bushings
Heavy duty rear sway bar endlinks
BMR adjustable rear lower control arms w/greasable poly bushings
Rear control arm center H-brace
Full length subframe connectors
-2.5 degrees camber front, -2 rear
This car sits about 1” lower than my 89 with brand new intrax with konis. It’s seen a lot of track time, and I think has given the time for the springs to properly settle.

Brakes-

10" vented rear disk brakes w/Porterfield R4-S pads
Rear brake bias valves
Stainless steel brake lines all around
ATE brake fluid (blue)

Wheels/Tires:

Body:
New windshield
Paint job was done very well, with few custom touches
No rear badges
Newer carpet
Hood pins
Chrome “SHO” front door sill plates

Extra:
Momo competition steering wheel
Air bag system delete
Cruise control delete
A/C system delete (besides compressor and evap core)
No fog or turning lights
Power antenna delete
Hood latch delete
This car handles like it’s on rails. It also stops better than any SHO I’ve ever driven. I haven’t been a complete maniac with it on the street, but I’m sure it was (and still would be) fun at the track.

Alright, there is also some bad stuff:
-Idle surges once in awhile. I plan on trying different IAC and MAF.
-CEL comes on sometimes with code P172. I had to weld up a crack on the front of the y-pipe (and I’m not a very good welder), so it may still have a little leak, causing this code.
-I repaired over 30 wires in the engine bay that were damaged by the deer accident. I tried to be thorough, but I may have missed some things. I’m very picky about some things, and sealed wiring repairs are one.
-Dents in right front and right rear quarter panels (you can sort of see the dents in the rear between the tail light and gas door in the first picture, and the other dents in the 3rd picture above the wheel well)
-Rust showing through in a few spots (see pictures in my photobucket account)
-Flat black front end
-3.2 badge on rear that I didn’t dare take off for fear of damaging the paint
-Battery light is sometimes on when first started. First trip above 2k and it doesn’t come on again that ignition cycle.
-EATC buttons cracked
-Horn doesn’t work
-Dead spot in the middle of steering, I’m pretty sure it’s in the rack
-Slight vibration at times, not sure if it’s tires or intermediate axle shaft
-No radio
-Looks like factory wiring bypassed for speaker wiring
-Rear power locks don’t work (haven’t taken door panels off to see if actuators even in there)
-Speedo cable is noisier when cold
-bolt broken off in PCM for connector, it broke when I removed it, and I don't see any good way to get it out. It has stayed in place and hasn't given me a problem yet.
-no battery hold down

Most of these are not issues if you would use it as a track car. After driving it for a month, I would trust it to go most anywhere now. I have tried to describe it as best as I can. I will probably think of other things as I keep driving it. I will probably also be constantly fixing little things as I drive it as well, and will update the ad accordingly. I would love to keep this car if I had space, but I don’t. I hope that someone will be able to enjoy the heck out of this thing.

I’m pricing it to move quickly. I will work out deals if you want something that’s not on the car (that I have) or don’t want something that’s on the car.

I may also be able to work out delivery to the New York area if interested.

Price: $2400. Negotiable (see above).

Here are a few pictures (for the rest see my photobucket album)

*Pictures will be posted after ad approval. Thanks!

$2400 for the wheels. Comes with a free car.

But seriously, whoever buys the car has first pick, if they don't want them, I'll be selling them seperate. Keep an eye on my parts thread, I'll be putting some goodies on there soon.

That car seems to be FAR too nice for a winter beater status. Good luck with sale, Timbo, looks good. :thumb:

EDIT: Car does look good, but I just looked at the pics and saw the rusty spots in the usual places.

Yeah, definitely seen it's share of michigan. I don't think it was ever driven in the winter, but may have not been stored inside for the past several years.

I will also sell it with slicers and 96 brakes for less.

And, I will soon be posting a few goodies in my parts add that you can add to the price of the car for more as well.

It's a great beginner's track car because the body isn't perfect, but it has everything you need as far as suspension/brakes.

Man, if this was available like 2 months from now. glws

If it's not gone in 2 months, it will be disassembled and the shell sent to the scrap yard (making this the second blue Gen 1 to be scrapped by me :) )

Seriously. Make an offer.

Ok, if it's not gone by the time the snow flies, it will be parted. Keep that in mind. I'm not shovelling around another one this winter....
