I have a 90 MTX SHO. Performance wise its stock except cm stage 1 rally, aluminum flywheel, aluminum subframe and a K&N. The stock ypipe is rusted through in multiple places and im tired of getting light headed on fumes lol.

If i get the catless y pipe, does anyone recommend wrapping from the headers to the end of the y pipe?

What would you recommend next... Full mandrel excaust over stock, BBB and honed intake, 80mm MAF?

I have a set of stock cams form a 3.2 i think... not sure. Can i send those in as a core and get the cams?

At what point will i need to upgraxe the the better PCM and get a lpm?

I have a spare set of butterflies and intake to send in so i wouldnt be out of service.

I got the equal lenght catted y-pipe, as it sounds much better and gives more low end torque than the catless, needed with the 3.0. Ported intake and BBB helps some, but is pricey for what little gains they give. LPM or any tuning by mail with no datalog is a shot in the dark; sometimes works, sometimes worse than stock. Full length SFC's are a better investment; one of the best bang for buck upgrades.

Do the ypipe first, see how you like it. I wouldn't wrap it. After that, maybe the intake stuff, sans 80mm maf.

Are you going to get an exhaust built or buy one?

If you go with our SHO Source y-ipe you wont need to wrap it: SHO Source

Wrapping may contribute to rust as well. If you want to you can get it coated for protection.

if you plan to run an 80mm you will need an LPM or Tweecer. No need to upgrade the PCM.

For performance, get the y-pipe. Catted sounds better, catless will give you slightly more on the top end.

After that I would hit the suspension and brakes. This will increase the FUN FACTOR of the car alot more than any other power mods.

If you really want to do the power mods, I would do BBB and ported intake next. At the same time gasket match the intake to the heads. I would stay away from the 80mm maf, unless you have a way to tune it correctly.

Cams would probably be the last thing I would do.

Is the any clip of the catless and the catted for sound? right now ihave a hole at the last bend of the y pipe and 2 popcan sized holes in the mufflers. If i do catless and a sho source catback, will it still be louder than my rusted out exhaust? I was told the catless also gives better mpg numbers?

Get the equal length Y-Pipe from Shosource. It is shipped in segments so you can add cats later at any time. This makes it very easy to install. I have the equal lenght but catted system and it is great, a little noisier than stock, but you won't notice it if you already have aluminum subframe bushings and the aluminum flywheel.
The system is pricey but well worth it.

Another thing i would suggest would be an UDP, not a huge HP gainer but will go very well along with the BBB, and Y pipe. Ive been running a Catless one for almost a year now and love the thing. It just comes so much more alive on the top end. But has NO balls below 3000 rpm.

If it is mostly a DD, go with the catted for the reason above; the added low end torque is much better for the street, and it sounds a lot better too.

Excuse my ignorance... SFC's?

I dont have any sound clips. I have a catless y-pipe and a Dynomax catback with a cherry bomb muffler in place of the resonator. I wouldnt say that it sounds good....but it is okay. I dont believe tha catless y-pipe is any louder than the catted, it just has alot more rasp, and can sound like an angry beehive at times. I went catless for the best possible flow uptop due to my set up and also the fact that my car is not a DD. It is a toy that sees alot of time a higher rpms.

Oh the rasp for the cat-less. Mines about has bad as it gets, factory resonator and about the loosest mufflers my dad could get from 10 years ago. But man of man does it sound mean once the secondaries open up.

What is the difference between the

RCM 329.99- SHO 3.0L MTX Dynomax Exhaust System

SHO Source Catback Exhaust System 89-95 $474.99

Dynomax Catback Exhaust System 89-95 $424.99

It seems like the dynomax from RCM and sho source are the same? Any advantages with any of the 3? Why is the shosource one the most expensive?

The Dynomax system is made of aluminized steel that WILL rust out in a few years. SHO Source made their own catback out of stainless steel for better longevity, but good luck getting theirs to fit properly...

Couldnt I just ceramic coat the dynomax one or some kind of coating? What is the issue with fitment? I have a 90 MTX rod shifter.
