Hey guys,

I've been lurking around the forum for a couple of months now just reading and getting info. I'll jump in and say no pics for the time being. No ability to upload anything at the moment. I'm a former 240sx enthusiast that kinda fell outta the car modification game after 5 cars and getting sick of the crap that comes from the scene. Everyone telling me that my car's not low enough, not jdm enough, not fast enough, not blah blah blah enough from people that have stock or riced out cars that have no right to be telling other people how their cars should be.

Down to the meat and potatoes of things. I picked up a '92 sho mtx from a friend who was an enthusiast. The car had developed numerous problems and was finally parked. I figured "what the ****" and to give some late model restoration skills a run for their money. Besides, there's not really any other sho owners in the area. It is the green exterior (in need of paint) with a black interior model. The car had a bad oil leak which turned out to be the cam seals. Got in there and found out that I had a cracked timing belt and crap water pump. Plus 2 busted motor mounts, a badly damaged a/c compressor, two crap ideler pulleys, a bad crank sensor, and I'm sure quite a few other things.

Upon obtaining the car and waiting on replacement parts to come in I've been ripping apart the interior to make it cleaner and a little better. Took the carpet out and pressure cleaned it and left it out in the sun for a few days. 50 million times better. Lucked out and found a green center console outta a 93-95 non-sho. In the process of making that black. But mostly i'm just taking my time and trying to modify as I repair. I haven't officially met any of you yet, but a lot of you have already been a massive help to me in getting my car back to being roadworthy with all of the information that's been put up on this site. In time I'll hopefully have mine on par with a lot of the very clean examples that're here on shoforum. Thanks guys and I look forward to being a decent member of the family.

I've actually noticed that. Guess it helps this is smaller community. There's not room for criticism, just encouragement.

Welcome to the SHO family. Where in SC are you located? We have several SHOforum members in SC. Two local groups are available for support, in addition to the general forum and national club. The Tidewater SHO Club covers NC, SC and Southern VA. The South East SHO Club also covers NC and SC along with the rest of the South East Region. The TSHOC can be found on the forum and facebook, while the SESHOC can be found on facebook. Both groups are here to offer community and support for local SHO owners. Check us out. :salute:

Good thing you didn't post pics, cuz I am sure your SHO is too green, too slow and not SHOwy enough for our tastes! :)

Welcome!

Welcome! SHO's are a love/hate relationship, but the love part more than makes up for the hate.

Welcome! I had a 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo and know exactly what you mean. I am an oddball here with a 2010 MKS Eco, but everybody has been cool so far! Figure out a way to post pics!

Thanks, guys. I'm actually in the upstate part of SC. Basically in and out of the Spartanburg/Greenville area. Oddly enough, I never paid much attention to any sho's that could've been in this area up until I bought mine. So far I've only seen two 3rd gens running around. I'll work on getting some pics up hopefully this weekend. I'm actually hoping to be able to get out and drive it around this weekend as well. I only have a brake issue to take care of that's screaming priority.

Btw, figured I'd throw this out here for my fellow sho friends who might be interested: there's a rather clean, low mileage (97k) silver 95 atx in the Greenville SC craigslist for $2,500. It'd be nice if it went to someone that'd appreciate it.

Kinda like the v6 exhaust.....you get used to it after awhile.

As long as you don't clear the tail lights, add stack wings, non-factory chrome wheels, any color window tint other than black, underbody neons, etc......you won't get that from me. :p

Welcome aboard, and pics or ban :naughty:

I wondered who took the green center console out of that white taurus in the LKQ yard....

I cut my freakin' palm on that blasted thing. And I made more of a mess than I wanted to, but I was bleeding. Never thought I'd need to keep bandages in my tool bag. I will from now. I'm not the biggest fan of LKQ, but Ron's over in Greer doesn't have any sho's. They only have like four or five 2nd gens, and maybe two 1st gens. But their interior parts are always 50% off.

Now, I went to... Vick's classic cars way out in the middle of nowhere in Chesnee. He let me wander through his yard, but it's crazy over grown with briars and weeds. No sho's as well, but he's gotta have over 20 1st and 2nd gens put together. He had a tan 93-95 console if I'm not mistaken.

I'm actually kicking myself in the butt for not grabbing those two mint black leather front seats that LKQ had in the 4th gen sable. Car's been crushed for a minute now.

They had a 3rd gen SHO for a very short time recently. I went back weekend before last to get the SARC struts off of it and the entire car was gone. It could not have been in the yard for more than a few weeks. I'm going to the Pullapart in Charlotte maybe this saturday, according to their site they have lots of 1st and 2nd gen Taurus/Sables in their yard.

Yeah, I need to make my way to Charlotte. I told myself I wasn't going to replace random aesthetic parts until I got a lot of the mechanical priority stuff done. You can tell the owner before my friend was pretty dumb and rather lazy. Something happened to the headlights. I have no earthly idea what, but the rocket scientist who had it before my friend decided to stick STOCK TAURUS headlights in there. Why they didn't bother with at least stock sable headlights is beyond me. I'll fix that. And whoever did that also had a pretty good idea where the oil was leaking from. Cause they stripped the head on the crank bolt. Apparently they got that far, couldn't get the head off and then just put everything back and sold it.

Before anyone asks. Yes, after all of the issues it'd almost be smarter to strip the car for parts and put them on another car. I just wanted to save this car from the fate of being crushed. I'm gonna try. Now, I do have a few random questions. Figured I'd ask them here before making new threads. No point in a bunch of clutter. I've done a bunch of reading, but some confirmations would be super awesome.

All 92's had abs, right? So if I wanted to do the brakes off a 99-04 mustang gt I need the spindles off a 94-95 taurus with abs? Plus custom brake lines. And in doing that I read someone on this forum put up that you can swap out the rear hubs off a... '04 mustang cobra with the front hubs of our cars. Is this true? Now I'm currently beating around in a '96 tbird (my attempt to break away from modifying cars) and I was making the attempt at converting the bolt pattern to a 5x114.3. I obtained a set of 5x108 to 5x114.3 adapters that were going on the rear of the tbird. But they can be used for the rears of the sho, provided they don't make the rears stick out too far. I actually have a set of high offset 5x114.3 18" rims that I traded for some 240 parts and the wheels are just collecting dust. I figure I can gather up all the parts and do wheels, brakes, and bolt conversion all at once.

If it's a straight rust free body it's worth saving. All SHOs from 90 on had ABS. You will need the 94-95 spindles and brackets plus you will have to redrill the brackets. The SHO and the T-bird have the same wheel offset so any adapters that work on the T-bird should work on the SHO.
