I took my SHO in today to get the driver side lumbar fixed, clunk in front driver side suspension, and the transmission TSB. I told them I needed a rental (I assumed it was included), but I have to pay $30 a day. They said I didn't have an extended warranty with rental coverage. I now have 19,000 miles on my car, and thinking about buying the warranty from Ford. Is it worth it? I know it's pure profit for them, and was thinking I can haggle with them on price. I plan on keeping the car for at least 2 more years, but it might be longer if I don't have any major problems.

Fyi the fusion I got today is nice, but it really makes me appreciate my car. I really hope I get it back this week.

We bought the extended warranty when I bought the SHO. It was discounted and with all the electronics in the SHO I just figured it was fairly cheap insurance to keep repairs at a reasonable price. I would say it depends on how much they want for the extended warranty.

How much is it? I usually avoid them but on a new platform with boost, some of the funky AWD drivetrain issues, and alot of electronics, I would really consider it.

-price is dependent upon your dealer. theyre just like a car. have a base price and SRP. its what you can negotiate. and if you plan to keep it longer than the factory warranty....when do you expect to spend the most money on it? in the first 3 years or the second three years??? lol

I think it is worth it... For sure it depends on the price, but as said, with a new platform and new engine, with turbos, AWD, etc. It brings peace of mind and also, when you are going to sell it back, you will get a better price... When I purchased my extended warranty, I was not even considering keeping the car until the end...

The Ford service contracts aren't too bad. I've been looking them up since we're in the market for an MKS or SHO. For a 2010 SHO with around 15k miles, it's around $2500 on the internet for the best warranty that covers everything but normal wear/tear and trim panels and stuff.

Keep in mind that if you sell the car, you can get your money back on the unused portion of the warranty. Almost all states have laws mandating this, and it's not much of a hassle with reputable companies.

Normally I always fix everything myself, but with the AWD and all the other techno stuff on the SHO, I'm really considering the service contract.

What exactly covers the rental? My dealer had an included rental for the first year but they claim that now I have to pay for a rental when I bring in the car for service. I bought 6 years 100,000 miles.

you will have to look at your contract and see if it has rental coverage.

Thanks for the tip on saving $205. I got that new escape here I might use that on, said it was barely $1,000 for 72 month /75k for it.

Read an article about a year ago in consumer reports about outside companies that offer extended warranties and it was pretty bad. Bottom line was that your better off getting the warranty directly from your manufacturer. Might want to really do your research before sending your check off to "Fordwarrantys"

They are legit. Fordwarrantys is just a Ford dealer selling the same OEM FoMoCo warranty you can buy when you purchase your car. Their prices are just much better than local dealers usually quote when you ask, but if you print out their quote and show it to your dealer, I bet they will beat the price. :)

An extended warranty is a terrible idea. I can't wait for my factory warranty to expire so I can mod the **** out of my SHO!

What are you waiting for??? If your car had to break it would probably have already. Now if it breaks after modifying it, you will end up paying anyway, so why not enjoy your car with a tune at least as of now? Just my opinion... Enjoy!

Is it worth it for peace of mind? Absolutely! From past experience, I had the Ford extended warranty on an '03 Mercury Marauder. Engine went south at 50K. Replaced for $100 deductable. '06 Mustang GT, clutch, pressure plate and tranny went south at 54K. Cost to replace, my $100 deductable. I received more than my money's worth in both cases. If the anything on the SHO goes south after the 36K, again, it's covered, except for my $100. Electronics aren't cheap!

I too bought the Ford extended warranty, 75k. Nervous about new engine and gizmos/tech.
My dealer matched the FordWarranty website and discount.

I purchased one thru the dealer (3rd party not ford extended warranty) that extends the bumper-to-bumper for 6yrs/100k miles. Said no like 4x till they dropped the price to where it was a no brainer...I kept my last car (F150) for 6yrs 90K miles, so this one will get used. Also they offer a refund if you don't make any claims, so figure what do I have to lose?
