Hey all!

The ones that already went to the track when there was glue applied in the box... What can we expect in terms of time for 60 feet and impact for 1/4 mile times and trap speeds?

I never had the chance to try it. I know that people with FWD or RWD appreciate it, but for AWD?

Thanks!

Glue????

VHT is the usual compound sprayed down, but not in the box. The box used to have bleach years ago, but usually water now.

Shouldn't be using the box with street tires, anyway. Just a cleanup chirp on dry pavement. You will capture water in the tread and spread it out of the box.

You also don't want to run right after they spray the line with VHT. Like running in water!! I have a vid (on VHS) of my (then new) '99 SHO running at Atlanta in '99 doing the first run after they sprayed. I smoked the LF tire out to the 1/8-mile!!

talk to the track organizers

sometimes people will pay for the traction compound and they'll only permit drag tires for a certain period

i'll upload my video from napierville to youtube

Thx,

I might not have used the appropriate word (I am a newbie and I speak French). By the box, I mean the first 60 feet. Now, my question is : If they spray VHT or any other sticky product and we wait for it to dry, what improvment can we expect with our AWD SHO for the 60 feet and the 1/4 mile time and speed?

Merci! ; )

I think we all read "box" and thought "water box", which is where they get the tires wet for burnouts.

I've heard the traditional rule of thumb on traction compounds like Track Bite is that it works best (on street tires) when your problem is breaking loose after the initial launch. If you're smoking the tires while launching, trackbite can supposedly slow you down.

Best to just have nice clean, hot tires.

It's definitely worth trying.

I didn't see any crazy spinning in your video(s). If you don't spin a little, you will bog down and your time will really suffer. A 13.5 stock & 40 deg temps is PDG!
If it had been 60 or 70 deg..... you may have had slightly better traction, but I would be really surprised if your time would have been equal or lower than 13.5. EB's really like COLD air....

Ask Darrell, what he has done to his SHO, MOD-WISE... and how hard it is to get to a 4,400 lb AWD vehicle to do mid-12's. Also... you don't have the performance package in Canada. I wish you luck.... but I think you already have done everything you can in completely stock mode. I just hope you won't be disappointed when you mod the car and it still is a low 13 second vehicle. Hopefully... I am wrong...

I agree with these guys, I'm not sure you want to be trying to run a street machine in VHT, this compound is really meant to be used with racing tires (slicks). As sticky as VHT is to help the pro cars, it is pretty easy to break parts in a street car.

Funny you should call it the "bleach" box. I had the opportunity to work with both Lew Arrington and Jim Liberman...they were kinda responsible for NHRA changing to water in the box and ending the era of the firey burnout. Actually I think Lew was the first to do one when he leaked trans fluid and ignited it when he did a burnout through the leak...remember I'm going back to the late 60's with this, so my memory is a bit hazy. But I gotta tell you, it sure was a blast to have had the chance to hear some of the stories and spend time with those early Funny Car pioneers.

thx all very much for taking the time to answer. I now have concerned to go and try the track when sprayed... I know that the temperature was kinda of optimal in the 40's. I am confident, living in Quebec, that I will have many opportunities to run again in these conditions... perhaps after summer though. I believe that my custom CAI with a good tune and the springs, along with 40's F and maybe less air in front tires will be enough to reach 12's and my open goal is to be the fastest new SHO for a period of time at least... That is just my competitive side, but I'd be very happy for you guys to continue to lower the times...
Thank you all again and drive carefully!
