Hello all. Well I will give a little backstory on me to get aquanted a little better. I am new to SHO's and recently purchased my 1st one last month. I got a 1997 WHITE SHO, I am told its RARE and I will tell you all why a little later :munch: I am far from being a noob to cars. Here is my backstory with cars.

About 10 years ago when my father passed away he left me some life insurance money, he was a car guy and so I thought I would get a nice sporty car and I had always wanted a SVT Contour so I bought one. It was BONE STOCK when I got it, and in the 7 years I owned it I modded the crap out of it, just about nothing else could be done to it without a motor swap or Boosting it.

Then about 3 years ago I got a HUGE bonus at work, so I decided I wanted another CSVT, the one listed above had and was still my DD, I wanted a track and show car. There was one that had been on the contour forums forever and it was a legend of a car so I bought it. Its a 3 liter, turbo monster of a car. I then modded it even further than it was already done, making it better looking and faster of course. I was even on the show passtime in this car, I ran a CRAPPY time cause the day before I broke "UNBREAKABLE" stage 3 axel in 3 pieces and had to run on a stock one the day of the show so I had to baby it and had severe wheel hop and spin off the line, as you all know im sure FWD with over 300whp there are traction problems. That and I couldnt run my slicks due to the stock axle.

Then my life took a HUGE change, my 10 year marriage fell apart, I decided to file for divorce and file for full custody of my 2 children. And of course in doing that I needed alot of money to retain my lawyer so I sold BOTH cars for pennies on the dollar. Well finally after 2 years of fighting that ended and I am victorious and I have primary custody and FULL LEGAL custody of both my children. I am now engaged to be married on March 26th and for my valentines day gift my fiance bought me my SHO. She knew I had always wanted one and the price was too good to pass up on this.

Well what I have been told this is a VERY rare sho. I bought it from a previous Exec from Yamaha. Its a 97 White sho with NO sunroof, NO leather, NO keyless entry pad on drivers door, NO mach audio, Its a stripped down bare model SHO, and I am told that they are VERY rare this way. I would love to find out just how rare this one is........

Well onto the pics. First my prior cars.

Thanks guys. Yeah I am looking at getting them welded. There is a Ford Performance shop nearby that has done tons of SHO cams.

Yeah alot of ford guys comment on my CSVT on passtime, I hate that though cause it was a BAD pass and that car was sooooooo fast and it didnt represent it well. It was fastest from a roll, like most fwd cars. From 30-140 was insane quick. I could squeel the tires at a 60 roll in 4th gear if I matted it, the garrett gt3076r had ZERO turbo lag.

Welcome!!

No, not really "rare". In fact, '97 was the highest selling year of the Gen 3 V8 (13K+, IIRC) out of 21K total from '96 - '99.

Doesn't matter, though (except when you go looking for unique SHO parts!!).

Get 'em welded, keep the tranny fluid changed, and enjoy!!

Sounds like you are near Doug Lewis at FPS....

Should have kept to the Contours.
But seriously, nice find.
The turbo sounds fierce.

Sick contours. Have fun with that gen3. And give your fiancée a HUGE hug because that is a badass gift for any holiday! Welcome to the family and for gods sake, get the cams taken care of! You don't want to lose that car.

So its not that rare all stripped down like this, orderd with no options?

I loved the contours but the aftermarket SUCKED royaly as I am finding out with these too, thank god I am NOT interested in modding this car. I had a hard enough time with tours, im not opening that can of worms again. And yes the turbo car was a monster, it screamed and never stopped. It was the funnest car ive ever driven and I have driven a few super cars too.

So even without the Contours do you still stick around CEG?

Yes I am still on there, I have been for over 8 years and have been to Spring Zing a few times, so its not just a car forum, they are some lifelong friends there too.

After alot of reading and browsing on here I decided on 1 Mod for the car, a well needed mod after the current cupholder broke.

Found it at my junkyard for $2.25 and MUCH better than that old folding p.o.s

I'd definitely have to agree that your SHO is rare in the sense that there are only a handful like it with those options. You don't even have an EATC. Is the antenna stationary or power?

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to SHOForum! Looks like a nice clean 97 you've got there. Doug at FPS will take good care of you, for sure.

Not sure on the rarity of it, or if it makes the car's value any different, but it's a cool feature.

Yeah, '96 & '97 were the two years when you could option them out as you wished. You will mainly find '97s with various configurations, as the '96s didn't come out until January '96, had less then 5,000 built, and IIRC most were ordered for dealer stock. Never met anyone who ordered a '96 on their own.

"98 & '99 came with the fixed option list (loaded, basically) and the fixed price. Only options were minor stuff like CA Emissions and a coupla others I can't recall.
