car dies after it warms up

just spent 1500.00 on a tuneup, and it it starts fine,runs fine in on highway,but after it warms up or when i come to a stop it dies,no codes at all ,any input please.

Did you replace the water pump. Sounds like the water pump is leaking on the CPS

had a coil miss fire,so had it replaced along with all 8 plugs,it doesnt die all the time.and i replaced oil filter adapter because where sensor screws in was cracked and leaked oil,cps=cam position sensor ?

Before you get too ahead of yourself, the posts above about water pumps leaking on the cps only apply to the V6 cars.

CPS=cam position sensor. Disregard that though, it's not your issue.

Now, moving on, hopefully without confusion, if it wasn't stalling when you had all this work done, bring it back to whoever did the work so they can fix their mistake.

If it was stalling before the tune up ($1500 for a tune up???), then I would check the IAC (idle air control). It may be dirty, or faulty.

I would agree with Bob check the Idle Air Control Valve and the Cam position sensor is def. not your problem.

Do you have a cone air filter installed? If so the MAF could get cleaned.
I would also check the Throttle Position sensor.

The idle air control valve is located on top of the throttle body. Has 2 bolts holding it down. You can get a new one from rockauto.com The TPS sensor is located right beneath the vacuum line coming out from the front vanity cover.

Check to make sure you do not have any vacuum leaks!

$1,500 is very high for a tuneup on these cars. What was done in the "tune up"?

As mentioned above, MAF sensor is often the culprit in stalling situations when all coils are good. Clean it with some non-residue electrical contact cleaner, clear the PCM (disconnect the battery for a minute) and see if anything changes.

That is way too much for that amount of work. I am sorry to say man, but you def. overpaid. It takes about 45min-1 hour for some one new taking the intake off the very first time plus another hour to put it back. The rest is about another hour's (tops) work. Even if the mechanic charges $100/hour that would come out to about $300 for labor. The parts cost you nearly $1,200!! Something seems wrong with that picture.

Please do not take me the wrong way man, but what you paid is extremely high. Plus if the car was stalling before the tune up, the mechanic should have ran it throughly after the tune up and make sure it works right. He should have picked up on the stalling issue.

Hopefully you can get the issue resolved. Crazy question....Are the cams welded?

no the cams are not welded,the ford dealership wouldnt touch trying to fix it,and the mechanic had the car 3 days after tune up trying to duplicate it dieing,what is weired when it dies it wont start back up till you turn key off then restart it.

First thing is first. Get the cams welded!!! The car stalling out when it is warm will be the least of your issues.
