As I understand it, with torque management, torque is reduced when the transmission shifts putting less stress on the transmission during shifting. Without torque management there is no reduction during shifts. This is the only difference between the stage 2 and stage 3 tunes. I am running the stage 2 tune, however lots of people are using stage 3 tune on their daily driver cars without any problems.

That is correct! :thankyou:

MJ, can you describe the shift difference between stock and with stage 2?
does the tune dramatically affect the shifting even with torque management, and having experienced stage 2 would you even bother with stage 3?

Thanks,
C.

Colin,

Any word on the car yet?

I'll send you both and you can see which one you like the best.

Hey Rick, I've now got the ShO's VIN and expecting a production date on Monday......which they say will be early the following week (of the 28th).

The dealer then should have the car with 10 days and to me shortly after.
So it's lookin' like a mid March delivery.

Seems like years since I ordered (Dec. 20th) but the weather has been the pits so not missin' much. Given me a chance to read up on everything and get better acquainted with the SHO thru here.

As far as which tunes you send: I'm hoping you will send thru #2 #3 and #4 just to have them -- the #4 in case I decide to go with Higher Octane juice.

Cheers, will be in touch ASAP

I should add that altho the wait has been long, it's also been beneficial: Up here Ford has a new Incentive for Feb and March which includes $4500 cash back and a further $1000 options discount (on Taurus [except base SE]).
So it's not been all bad waiting this long.

Colin, I have been driving with the Stage 2 tune since I've got them and as far as shifting, the only difference between stock and the stage 2 seems (to me) to be: 1.) Shifts seem to be a bit firmer and quicker. This is most noticeable under heavy or wide open throttle acceleration. Under normal driving the car still seems to shift firmer and quicker but if you had not driven the car and gained some seat time, I doubt that you would notice the difference in normal driving. I love the Stage 2 tune, will probably not use the others (although it's great having them in reserve) until I get a wild hair and install the stage 4. I love the whole package of the Stage 2 and since my car has less then 8500 miles on it, I'm really thinking the Stage 2 works great I would upgrade to the Stage 3 or 4 if I were going to the drag strip, but since my wife said this is the last car I'm allowed to buy, I'm sticking with the Stage 2, it really makes this come alive and I like the way the transmission shifts with the Stage 2. Disclaimer: If I were single and didn't have any kids(or wife) who drove my car, I would be into the Stage 3 or 4 in a heartbeat. One last note, I just informed my wife that the SHO must have premium fuel ALL THE TIME..I got the rant from her..it was a "yes dear" moment.

Just read your latest post, glad to hear you've almost got the car. Hope it comes sooner then expected. Remember my advice, drive the car a few weeks before installing the tune, if you do, you will appreciate the improvement the tune gives much more. Hope to hear you've got the car soon. Also I'm glad to hear the wait was rewarded by the new incentives!

Thanks for the quick reply, MJ -- sounds like Stage 2 is the ticket at least initially......

Got to expect those 'moments' occasionally.....:) -- tell wifey it's better for the car to run on premium anyway.....runs better and stays cleaner.:) - and the tune will net a bit more mileage to help pay for the premium's extra cost.

Tell her she's gorgeous and take her out to dinner -- that usually fixes anything.;)

Cheers,

Well, part of the problem is that my wife has never understood my love affairs with vehicles. She has always seen a car simply as something to be driven and used. She really doesn't understanding modding a vehicle. One of my saddest moments was the day my son (who I have raised to be a motorhead, too). Said; "What's the big deal, it's only a car?" (we were speaking about the SHO) I almost went into cardiac arrest!! Oh well, at least I do have the car I've wanted so I guess that's what counts.

I think every women knows deep down inside that every guy loves his 'toys'... I'm convinced that they don't get as excited to keep the 'hobby' under control.

Remember when babes in their teens used to love hot cars? They don't get over that in a hurry... as much as they'd like to hide it...;)

LOL, the son was lookin' for an allowance raise and siding with Mom was a good way to get one :) -- you know inside he was as excited as you about the SHO.....

Don't tell wifey I said any of this.....:p
