If you don't have a spring compressor, get one. While you're there, get a new set of strut mounts...and get me some too; I have the same problem. I've been driving it like this for a while and I've convinced myself can feel the mount rocking back and forth when I push too hard. It's definitely on my list of things to take care of ASAP. It's not a daily driver, though. And I won't be driving it anymore until spring.
To resolve this problem correctly is quite easy, though. I can pull a knuckle in about 17 minutes with the correct hand tools, so I figure another 8 minutes TOPS removing the stabilizer link and pulling the strut out (hey only 2 more nuts, right?), 6:00 to remove the old mount and install the new one and a half hour putting it all back together.
Autozone is open for another 2 hours or so. You can be done by then.
one of my current cars has the same stud broken on the rh strut mount. it has been that way for over a year with no issues. of course, it doesn't get driven like Zach drives.....
I actually dont beat on the car like i use too. Do you wanna know how to keep your gas milage up and parts breaking down? Buy a catless y pipe and cut off yourr mufflers, you wont want to hit the gas.
