Hi, I just bought a 94 SHO and im new to the SHO world. I wanted t knpw what performance upgrades I could do to her in order to get some HP. I was looking to spend less than $1000 doing it, too. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.:thankyou:

Is it an MTX or ATX? SHOsource.com is a great place to get started on looking for performance parts as well as our classifyied sections!

Best bang for your buck is to maintain the car. Do you know when the last 60k was done? (Timing belt, spark plugs, wires, seals, sensors etc.) After that is you own an MTX is going to be a y-pipe and BBB's with a ported intake.

Suspension wise i highly reccomend the 96 brake up grade (utalizing the rotors from a gen 3 SHO you gain ~1" larger rotor.... it stops quite nicely over stock) How are your bushings?

Welcome to the SHO world. If you treat your car right it will gladly return the favor and keep a huge smile on your face!!!

mtx or atx is one of the best questions.....because i might see a tranny in your future if you like spinning tires.

The best thing you can do for your SHO is start from the ground up. HP means nothing without a good foundation to handle it, and stop it.

Suspension, brakes, and normal maintenance should be up to par before you start adding power.

Congrats on the SHO purchase!

:thankyou:hey, thanks for the replies. it is an automatic, so atx? and yes, I just had the whole car tuned up (plugs, wires, fliter, oil changed, the works). and yes although stopping is good, I was sort of looking for something cheap to give me just that little bit more ZOOM when stepping on the pedal..

So did Jiffy **** do your tune up? Have you researched what an SHO really needs for a "Tune Up"?

These are great questions. If you took it to a quick oil change place or something similar you probably missed about 80% of the 60k. Getting caught up on all the maintenance is the number one thing before doing any upgrades. Once the maintenance is up to par then I'd probably go with brakes and suspension. It won't make you go any faster when you step on the gas, but it will handle a lot better. Check your bushings and look into either Gen3 or aluminum sub-frame bushings. Here's a link with some good info on what a 60k involves. Get the remainder of this stuff up to date before anything else. You'll thank us and yourself in the long run.

The words "cheap" and "fast SHO" don't go together in a sentence. :)

As mentioned above, there's a pretty decent sized list of what needs to be done to make the car reliable. Fast doesn't matter if it's not safe, or reliable.

You've got a 94, so doing the larger 96 brake upgrade is easy, just caliper brackets, rotors, and pads from a 96-up SHO.

Cheap with a little more zoom.... tough really. The SHO motor isn't known for low end torque, which seems to be what you're looking for. Intake porting, larger throttle bodies, big bore secondaries, and most other things intake related are going to give you high RPM HP. They won't hurt the low end, but they're not going to help it much either. A larger MAF (mass airflow meter) may help, as well as removing the silencer from the stock airbox. Cold air intakes, if done properly, can help too.

Exhaust, on a stock SHO, isn't going to add much grunt. You have an ATX, so the y-pipe isn't really a restriction. The MTX cars had a horribly designed y-pipe, and benefit from aftermarket designs, that's why people were asking.

So, my best advice would be, without spending a ton of money, to make sure the maintenance is up to par, put on the 96 front brakes, and make it handle better with larger sway bars, replacing any worn items in the suspension, and maybe add subframe connectors and strut tower braces.

An easy, relatively cheap upgrade is to check your PCM's code. This is the computer that runs your car and tells it what to do. If the code is not D4U1, you can change it out for one very easily. The D4U1 computer has performance benefits the others didn't have. Shift points, shift firmness, and other fiddly magical computer stuff.

If your looking for more hp I would say get a Zex Kit. Before putting it on though you should do the rest of the 60k maintinance, the 96 brake upgrade and a new 155lph fuel pump. Also, with spraying an atx the trans is gonna be a weak link....some of the atx guys on here could probably give you some pointers on making it last longer. Suspension work should be looked at as well. While it doesnt make the straight line acceleration any more, it makes it aot more fun to drive. Take it from a guy who did alot of power mods before he started on suspension. The suspension makes you enjoy the power adder ALOT more.

That will be more power for the dollar. You will also want an RPM switch or something like it to keep the nitrous from spraying during upshifts. You will also need a good set of motor mounts. :)
