I have the intake manifold off and I need new gaskets for it because the black came off of them. (anyone know where I can get new gaskets?)

My question is what is a good cleaner to clean all the black that is on the sides of the intake? Also do you just use a towel of do you have a tool and a trick to make it easier to clean?

I use a shit load of brake clean and a flexible wire brush. You can also put the whole thing in a parts washer and wash the shit outta it again witha flexible brush. Then I normally blow it out with compressed air.

Berryman's b12 to break up the hard stuff. I just let it sit in there a while, then brush it around, then dump it out. It works faster than carb cleaner, but is harder to get where you want it.

ALOT of brake Clean, Wire brushes, Picks, Paint scraper, screwdrivers, If you have EXTREMELY delicate hands like me- a Whiz wheel.

At harbor Freight they sell a 3 piece "Tooth brush sized" wire brush kit for about $5... 100% Worth it...

I found something similar at Wal-mart for 2.99. They work fantastic for this crap.

I put 2 gallon containers of Purple Clean in a large plastic box and washed the crud of with a bottle brush. Rinsed with a hose. BTW if you extrude hone your intake, the oil won't stick to the runners.

You also asked about gaskets - any parts store should be able to at least order them. I got mine from Napa. You could also go to rockauto.com as well, especially if you need other things, as they usually have better prices than anywhere else. Just try not to go crazy, or you'll have $400 worth of "little things" - it adds up quickly.

That's some good stuff right there. I wasted more money buying a lot of cans of cheaper carb and brake cleaners. Once I bought B12, it was like a power washer compared to a water hose [other carb/brake cleaners].

I still use B12 to keep my intake from building up all of that crap again. I spray it through the throttle body with the engine running, it works like a charm.

Diddo! Berryman's B12 is the best, hands down.

Try foaming gun cleaner and an overnight soak. It reaches deep and stays put to eat through the mess.

Dont for get to pull the pipe plugs and clean out the EGR Circuit. Soaked mine in a parts washer for 2 days, a wire brush and 10 cans of cheap Walmart carb cleaner did the trick.

Intake gasket kits can pretty much be found at any parts store, it all the other stuff you have to hunt for.

I like Berryman's too but it ruins the paint! I just can't be careful enough to protect it. What about the butterfly's and TB? they say it has a special coating and carb cleaner should not be used.

B12 is quite good, but as you point out it is quite strong and will mar the finish. An alternative is gun cleaner. There is an expanding foam type that will migrate through all of the passages and coat all surfaces. It needs to sit overnight before rinsing. *****, Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc. carry it.
