A guy is selling two sets of mustang mufflers, one off a 2006 stage 2 roush and the other off a 2008 gt500.
I read that the mustang gt mufflers sound pretty good, now would any of these work and sound good on the sho?

You can use about anything. You just have to see how much modification it takes to get it to fit right. Just a little cutting and maybe moving a hanger or two.

nothing sounds good on a V6 SHO. but you'd be better off sticking with matching mufflers or getting rid of the duals and running the roush.

I think they hang down too low and look like shit, but that's just my opinion.

I agree...there was a video on YouTube, and they looked like crap...not sure if the owner had them professionally installed or not, but they looked awful...also, getting a deep throaty sound from the V6 SHO will be difficult to do...seems that regardless of what kind of exhaust folks put on (Y-pipe, various mufflers, etc), there's always an rpm range that has some raspiness to it.

I bought a pair of Thrush all-welded chambered mufflers from Summit, they were less than $30 each. Had a muffler shop install them and reuse the stock tips. Sounds nice, but has a raspiness from about 3700-4000 (or maybe 2700-3000, I forget) rpms. But at least there's no mistaking it for your garden-variety Taurus.

There is no way to give a small-bore, oversquare V6 a deep/throaty sound, or a sound even remotely resembling a V8. The mufflers off the GT are HUEG and don't fit under the rear bumper very well. I couldn't tell you about Roush/GT500 mufflers, but I'd assume they're the same size. The key to a good exhaust is resonators. As many/much of them as you can fit on there.

Of course, peoples' definition of a good sounding exhaust vary, very very widely.

maybe I'll just build my whole exhaust with the exception of bends out of resonators and see what happens....

Thats what I got , those Roush muffs are in reality , Borlas. And they are the best sounding mufflers Ive owned on a SHO.

I got what look like a brand new pair of '05-'06 Mustang GT mufflers deliveried to my door for $63 off of Ebay! (SS to boot!!)

Had them installed by my local mechanic and he did an awesome job!!! Cut a notch just in front of the tip and bent the tip down and re-welded. Tucked them up & in nicely.

I was hoping for a better sound and was somewhat dissappointed when I started her up and revved it. I'd have to say they are a better than the Summits I had previously.

In the car, under acceleration, it sounds decent, but I have no clue what it sounds like outside the cabin. Now with over 4,000 miles on them, I was told by my mechanic that they sound noticably deeper to him.

I have a catless SHO with a big resonator and 2 07 Mustang GT mufflers. What is weird is my SHO has a deep growl. Tim(Toolman) says my exhaust sounds great!!

The mufflers do hang pretty low but I have gotten use to it.

I had 05 GT mufflers on my 92 I'm parting, it sounded good. I almost didn't sell them. The guy that bought them from me, loves them on his cat-less gen1. Paging 1madSHO95? ;) I have some Thrush welded mufflers and a 5"(diameter, 18" long) magnaflo resonator going on my 94 3.2 MTX soon. ;)

Note that those mustang muffs are not the GT500 roush (borlas)

This is what they look like. note that mine are painted , for po-po stealth.

I have a 90 SHO and I installed Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. This series had the shortest length and matched the original size mufflers. I went 2 1/2" from the converter back but installed an inline muffler (see-through) in place of the resonator. The sound is great at all rpms and is surprisingly quiet at steady highway speeds. The system I replaced was 1 7/8" single, and totally quiet. The car now sounds agressive but not annoying.
You can get a 3 liter V6 SHO to sound as tough as any V8, just takes a little coin, the right parts, and some effort.

i have a 95 mtx with a stock exhaust with cherrybomb glasspacks and 1 12" resonater. has a deep growl at idle. get just a very slight rasp from 3700 to 4000 rpm and on decellaration you get a nice light pop it sounds awesome.
sorry for the naration...

You don't have a lot of space up where the muffler goes and the shortest Flowmaster 40 was as long as it could be. That is how you get that nice, up, out of sight, installation that makes the car look professionally prepared.
I stumbled on the in-line glass pack muffler replacement for the resonator by reading this forum.
I was not ready for the aggressive idle sound and the throaty rumble of a big-block, but quickly grew to like it.
My advice would be if you have a sensative, close neighbour, that the short Flowmasters would not be a good choice for harmony in the neighbourhood. But if you want a tough sound, and don't want to experiment, and don't mind the price, this set-up with the resonator swap-out, cannot be beaten.

I have a set of '05 GT mufflers just put on my '89 and I love them. With the car being black you really don't notice the mufflers being a little lower because it just gets washed out when you look at them. The sound is much deeper & throatier than stock and I don't get any rasp from any RPM range.
