I searched through a bunch of older posts and got some good info. I was thinking about running it in my oil as I'm due for an oil change anyway, and possibly through the intake. I have two main questions though:

1) I run full synthetic oil. Does this make a difference?

2) There are alot of different opinions about how to use it in the intake. Some say to put the vacuum line right in the can. Some say to pour it slowly. There are different suggestions on which vacuum line to use. Anyone have any good insight? I've never used it before and I don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks in advance guys!

If you're going to run something in the oil, I'd use some ATF or Auto-RX before Seafoam.

In the intake? I think your thinking of a "hot soak" kind of thing. I always used some valve cleaner stuff when doing that... and can't say I've personally done it to a SHO... worked wonders on my old truck, and the BMW I had 250,000 miles on. :)

I used a vac line pinched off, then let it run in as fast as it would go without flooding it, and then when it got right to the bottom, i'd open the hose all the way and let it flood itself. Then let it sit for 10 min, and fire her back up. :)

I'm not sure what "hot soaking" is, but here are a couple of threads that talk about using Seafoam in the intake. Oh, and forget question number 1. It says that it's safe for synthetic oil right on the can.

Like I said, I've never used it before but I'd like to give it a try. Putting it in the crankcase and fuel tank are self explanatory, but I want to make sure I use the correct vacuum line for the intake. Thanks guys!

I used it right after I got my sho - it smoked out the little old ladys talking on the sidewalk LMAO. But after it was done - it ran SILKY smooth. I love the stuff - used it on my lawnmower a couple of weeks ago - it even helped that out too.

How exactly did you use it deercrusher? In the intake? If so, what vacuum line did you use? That seems to be the really confusing part.:thankyou:

I used one of the vacuum hoses leading to the intake (after the throttle body of course). Forget which one though. I put the hose right into the can and only let it suck at a rate that bogged it down to right before the stall point. Did all that with one hand and with the other hand pulled the throttle cable to rev the motor at about 3k. Worked great and made the old ladys run back in their houses.

How did you control the flow into the intake? Just pinch the hose until you got the right amount flowing?

this is how i do it, and have done it on 30 plus cars

i pull the vac line on the brake booster

1) Run car till hot
2) Pull vac line
3) Pour half can slowly into the line it will kinda pull it self in, now only pour enuff so that the RPM's return to around the normal idle range
4) once u neer the half can mark Pour loads in to make it stall out if it will, if not turn it off quickly
5) Let car stand for 15-25mins
6) Put vac line back on
7) Now go for a drive, and i mean a heck of a one. You should hit high revs 6k max is good and do a lot of stop and go's. you should do this till it stops smoking
Now if this car hasent been done before or ever u might want to do this twice
on the sho i pull the main vac like to the seconderies and plug it so they stay open during all this
if u want u can also go buy some decarb spray and spray it in the intake before the seafoam
now for the seafoam in the oil id pour atx in there insted
hope this helps

i pull the vacuum line going down to my purge selenoid, put a spare hose on there, and at a hot idle, it's usually enough to suck the can dry before it stalls. i love it. it keeps the mosquitos down for a couple of days.

i use the rear main vacum hose and the one in the front on the fuel regulator at the same time

so i split the can in 2

try and get into the 4k range so secondary open and let it dies

then after 10 min unplug dis cranck for a couple off 10 sec and then wait and other 10 min

this will make the stuff go everywhere in the intake the valve and exaust circuit and even some on the o2

and then you drive the **** out off it lol
that some vid my body just did on his tiburon after ive showed him how to do it lol

atf has no businees in motor oil

Then neither does SeaFoam.

ATF has many detergents in it that will help breakdown carbon and remove tarnish, AND it has ingredients that will help recondition the oil seals. It's been recommended by established forum members (read: engineers ;)) and I have no problem accepting their advice.

On the other hand, SeaFoam is just a bunch of solvents from what I understand. I would think they'd be more dangerous than ATF when added to engine oil (zero lubricating properties).

Fwiw, I have <1 quart of ATF in my oil right now. When I start to see tarnish on the bottom of the dipstick, I wait until I'm 500 miles away from my next oil change, add a quart of ATF, and then do a full oil and filter change when the time comes. And when I do change it, the dipstick is clean as a whistle. Oil consumption has also decreased since I started doing this last year or the year before.

I just got done with the Explorer and the SHO. That smoke is killer. lol. Made a HUGE difference in throttle response on the Explorer. Still trying to figure out if it made any difference in the SHO. Thanks to everyone for their help!
