Tonight Lincoln dealers had a "star-studded event" going on that I heard about and I wanted to see what it was all about and I was driving by my local L/M dealership so I decided to stop in. There were more people in a Lincoln/Mercury dealership than I've ever seen before! It wasn't packed, but busy. They had free snacks and drinks too :woo-hoo:.
Well anyways, when I came in they asked me if I wanted to register and go for a test drive, and so I said sure. They asked me in what and of course I said MKS with EcoBoost and mentioned that I wanted to compare it to the new SHO
. So then a salesman grabbed some keys and a plate and said see you back and 20 mins! He just let me have it and it was a loaded "Ultimate" package EB MKS too.
My first impression is WOW. The first thing I notice is it feels much more open than the SHO, because the SHO is a bit claustrophobic with its cockpit style dash and center counsel IMO. Of course it was fast, but I didn't get to open it up too much/often because I was driving around Dearborn right near the police station in 35mph zones. Like I said, it had all of the options, including the double panoramic sunroof, as well as the the auto-park assist. I tried out the auto parallel park feature in a tight spot and it did it flawlessly, even though I was a little worried it was going to hit one of the cars at first. The THX stereo was REALLY nice too, much better than the Sony stereo in the SHO IMO. One other thing is the leather seats in the MKS are VERY comfy and I think feel much better than the SHO's. They didn't have massagers in them though and IDK if they're available in the MKS. IIRC the MKS now uses the same leathers as Jags too.
Mechanically it felt just like the SHO though, and pulled hard up to 70, even though they claim it has 10 less horsies, but with the same torque IIRC. I think it road a bit softer, but also didn't feel floaty or have a lot of body roll. It was a nice balance, and I think the EB cars get sportier suspension too.
So basically it's an "ultimate package" premium SHO and the price reflects that as the one I drove was $53!
On average the MKS EB is about $10k more than the SHO, but it does come with more standard features, as well as features unavailable on the SHO, like the park-assist. But a $10k premium?? IDK if it's worth it. You could do a lot of mods with $10k...
