My dd has 215 60 16's yet a donor 93 atx that I scrapped had 225 60 16 on it. the struts look the same as mine (dont appear to be aftermarket specialty pieces) yet that car accomondated the wider/taller tires without rubbing. The tires are on stock slicers, so I simply installed them on my car - they rub against the strut housing!? Why. Is there adjustment possible, or were different cars with different build dates updated or something? Both cars are 93 atx's.
I guess I have 4 slicers with decent 225 60 16 tires for sale. Daft.

YOu should have gone with 225/55R16 instead of 225/60R16

The 225/60R16 is .23" taller & .4" wider than the stock rubber
The 225/55R16 is actually .21" shorter & still the same .4" wider than stock rubber.

Plus the 225/60R16 causes your speedo to read 1mph over actual @ 75mph, the 225/55R16 reads 1mph UNDER.

the particular tires that I got only come in that size... they are goodyear eagle ultra grip GW2... used on police cruisers... the front tires dont rub but the back ones do... i am just wondering if there is something i can do to the strut or something like that, that will just stop the rubbing...l

A/BrC
A = aspect width sidewall to sidewall in millimeters...tread can be differet width, but not sidewall to sidewall...:munch:

B = percent of A into height off of the rim (each direction)

C = obviously is the rim width

225mm / 25.4 = 8.858" = apsect width
8.858" X .6 = 5.3148 x 2 = 10.6296 + 16 = 26.6296

225mm / 25.4 = 8.858"
8.858 X .55 = 4.8719 x 2 = 9.7438 + 16 = 25.7438

height difference is....0.8858" or 7/8"

As for speeds...http://www.neons.org/tire/

going to 225/60r16 @ 75mph = +1.35

going to 225/55r16 @ 75mph = -1.19

They'll stop rubbing on their own eventually. Just keep an eye on them that they don't expose any cord.

The real solution is to not put tires on that don't fit. 225/60 doesn't fit, as you've just found out.

so i just put it on my lift and realized that the rear left is good but the rear right is not... now from what i have noticed is its just the way the coil fell... if the spring were rotated it would be fine... just the rotation of the spring... the rubbing is not too bad as there is minimal notice on the rubber but still annoying nonetheless

Do you have coilovers? If not, the spring perch should control the spring location, including how it's clocked in the perch. Might look to see if something else is amiss in there that makes that side different, like possibly a broken spring.

The tire rubbing 'will go away' I doubt is good advice. If the tire becomes too hot Im sure the integrity of the tire would be compromised.
Troubled - funny that you backs rub, it's my fronts. I actually am running 225 60 r 16 michelins on the back and they are fine. I guess I will have to find someone to swap these tires with then. Or list them on graigs list here.
Thanks, for all your suggestions, i just wondered if anyone had any 'secret' adjustments for the struts.

im running bfg traction t/a tires at 225/60/16 and i dont have any problems what so ever with them rubbing what i have noticed is my speedo is 5mph off. so if the speedo says 70 its really 75. gps told me so.

I wonder if I should swap the struts that I still have from the donor car? If they fit on that car then installing them on my dd should allow the 225's to work - right?

I remember the 93 ATX I owned briefly having some kind of shield on the front struts under the spring perch. I don't know if this was on all 93 ATXs or if I'm dreaming or what.

I think it depended on the build date in 93.

I put 225/60-16 Goodyear Integrity's on my 93 ATX with no issues. Different brands of tires can have different variations in the actual mounted dimentions..... Guess you just didn't get lucky this time...

nothing is broken my stock oem size tires just came off with no issues but these are rubbing just that one tire... so can i just rotate the spring?
