SHO wanna-be owner from Cali!!!

Hey guys, new to the forum. I've always wanted a SHO since I was a kid and now am in the market "again" now that I can afford one!

So my question to you guys is: Which is the best year to get? I have a soft spot in my heart for the both gen 2's and 3's! What are the pros and cons to either one? Thanks.....BTW I will attack the "search" button as soon as I post this ?

I'm sure in Cali you could find a nice rust free SHO with some mods for a decent price. I'd go with a gen 1/2 mtx. That's just me i'd never buy an automatic, unless it was a cheap winter beater.
If you get one buy one with a Quaife limited slip, or put a Wavetrac unit in brand new. The transmissions like to eject the differential pin which results in major damage, upgrading eliminates this problem.
Get one with low mileage or make sure it has been maintained. Proper maintenance is key. I will not buy another unless it comes with a list of receipts.

Welcome to the forum by the way. Go with a 91. They are the best in my opinion.

I'd say go with a 91 or a 92, they're both the best car* of their respective generation. They're also the rarer ones, 89's sold great, and 93+ sold like hotcakes compared to the rest, due to ATX being available.

*In my opinion. Commence flaming in 5...4...3...

year is all in your personal taste.......me personally im partial to 92's

gen 3 make sure the cams r welded
gen 1 or 2 do ur rod bearings

id highly recommend one with e fairly decent maintenance record tho.......mileage isnt really much of a issue with our engines as long as theyve been maintained

Thanks for all the replies guys! I thought I was dead set on a Gen 3 until I started reading all the stuff on here about power, cams, etc.... Now I am looking at Gen 2's.

This will be a weekend toy and my goal would be to run somewhere in the 13's when everything is all said and done.....but that is another thread

Can anyone tell (or post links) me the difference in power and performance between both generations? Thanks again!

If you get a gen2, get a 94 or 95. Better brakes, R134A, newer .

I agree with the previous post, 94 or 95 allow you to upgrade the brakes to the 96+ for alot less money. I have the upgrade on my 95, and it makes a very noticeable difference when you decide its time to stop. Otherwise, I think the red and blue SHO's are the coolest, but make maintenance the number one priority. I picked well maintained and clean, over color and year.

The Gen 3's are super smooth to drive, much more refined, and sound awesome. They lack a manual, a big thing for me, but they are still sweet cars. Did I mention they sound good?

Ya, I like the gen 2's a lot, but the gen 3's are growing on me because the way they sound. This will be mostly a weekend car/toy with a little play time in between. If I go with a gen 3 does anyone know where I can get the cams welded in Central/Northern California? I would like to make a purchase by October and want to get "all my ducks in a row"! Thanks
