I know this must have been covered before but I don't have a computer anymore and I need info asap and I'm on someone elses computer so I don't have much time. How do I stop the crank pulley from spinning so that I can remove the crank pulley bolt. I have a 95 ATX and I have tried everything from stopping it from spinning.

dang, looks like I didn't get to you in time. I was fixing my own car...

The easiest way I've found is to put all the accessories back on, and all the pulleys... put the belt back on... and wedge a BIG ol' screwdriver into the power steering pulley. Wedge it so it won't move counterclockwise.

Then, crank away.

If you don't want to do that, then get a big ol' breaker bar (or pipe over a breaker bar), lay it on top of the subframe (the pulley is going to rotate clockwise) and attached to the crank pulley bolt, and bump the starter. Please make sure the battery is hooked up, and MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE DIS!!!! It would be absolutely DISASTROUS if the car actually started. The starter has a shit-ton of torque and should be more than plenty to break the bolt.

Who ever suggested the mobil truck repair was a genious. I'll thank you later. A phone call and $20 later the crank bolt was out however now it needs a tranny.

how did removing the crank bolt destroy your tranny?... sounds like I wouldn't be thanking the mobile truck repair... just sayin'.

Edit: No, the engine starting wouldn't be THAT disastrous... you going "OMGWTFWTFWTF" and screaming and running around with your arms in the air while your engine develops crankinoma(c) within 30 seconds IS somewhat disastrous.

After I did the crank sensor and got it running it was fine for about 2 weeks and now the tranny won't shift into any gear. It was shifting like shit for a while and I was about to do a tranny filter and fluid but I guess I was too late. lol
