So looking at the "floor" shifter...it has M D N R P

What's the M...manual?

You gotta drop it in M to use the paddles?

That's how it is in most of the existing pedestrian paddle shifted automatics in the current market.

Question for the shifters, from the looks of it from the pictures one of them is going to be the up-shift and one will be downshift correct?

I had the "pleasure" of a rental Gran Prix GXP a while back and it also had paddles, although they were duplicates on each side of the wheel. You had to push to up-shift, and pull to downshift, didn't matter which side you used. Someone tell me the SHO isn't like that!!

Wait what, push/pull? What is it some kind of single paddle shifter setup? I know we wanted something Yamaha but not a bike shifter. I thought the left one was pull to downshift and the right was pull to upshift.

from the article on Jalopnik.
"For performance-minded drivers, paddle controls allow "match-rev" downshifts and will hold manually selected gears for precise control. Intuitively operated, a squeeze on either paddle will deliver an economical upshift under acceleration, while a gentle push forward brings a smooth downshift, synchronizing the engine and transmission speeds for responsive and positive engagement."

pull = up
push = down

Well that's partially good to hear!! At least it isn't push to upshift like that damn Pontiac. So many times I hit redline at WOT and pulled it, waited for the shift, then remembered I had to push it to upshift.

When it was put up against a SHO my brother left it in full automatic. And you know what, the Grand Prix won by a 2 lengths at 120. I guess that's what 85 more hp gets you...

With all the drive-by-wire tech used in new cars today, I'm willing to bet there'll be a programmer that comes out allowing you to assign one paddle to upshift and one to downshift.

When in "M" can you paddle into reverse?

I think you have to shift down to R then go back to M
