i know this is a common problem. and yes, i have searched. but i just cant get these things out for the life of me. when removing my ypipe, one nut from the back actually came of as it should. the other, snapped in half. in the front, one of the studs actually just unscrewed itself as i was attempting to unscrew the nut. the other, snapped... so i have 2 half studs still in my manifolds, both passenger sides. theres enough meat to grab onto them still. so i heated up the manifold as best i could w/ mapp gas. most of the portion around the bolt was glowing. locked on my biggest vicegrips i had and went at it. nothing. thats just not physically possible, and im not too small a guy. what the **** am i supposed to do here? all i want is my ypipe back on. i just figured my best choice was to remove those 2 studs and replace them, but thats not happening. unless theres another technique i havent found. do i have any other options besides removing them?

Dremel with a cutoff wheel. Cut off the rest of that stud flush with the manifold. Drill out the remainder of the stud, tap the hole, and install a new stud. This is what I had to do when my studs snapped last time I dropped my Y-pipe

If you're working on your back on the ground, save yourself a boat load of hassle and just remove the manifolds and drill out the old studs on a bench. Trying to do those things on your back can make you crazy, and wastes a lot more time than the extra 1/2 hour or so it will take to R&R both manifolds.

And if you're going to remove the manifolds, take them to someone that has an oxygen acetylene torch setup. MAPP gas can't get cast iron hot enough to break the rust bond. Heat up the cast iron around the remaining stud until the cast iron is bright cherry red. Wear welding goggles. The stud will unscrew easily then. Let cool, thread in new studs. Good luck.
