I must say that our beloved Yamaha engines seem indestructable!! I would like to hear testimonies of SHO owners with high miles, who's cars are still going like a bat outta ****. Mine is at 109,000, and it does not seem 1% tired whatsoever. That is VERY impressive!! When do these things "If ever" begin to lose power?? Most cars seem tired by the time they break the 100k mark, but our SHO's are total champions!! Take care fellow SHO owners, and keep cruisin' ;-)

Nice to hear that your car is doing well. I have a 1995 ATX @ 109,450 miles so far. Like you said, my car runs like new. I have done most of the maintenance on the vehicle including the 60K last summer. Two days ago, I replaced my TPS and CPS. Perhaps it is me...but I just feel like my car had just taken multivitamins. This car is my everyday commute and so far...it performs the same way just like I had bought it brand new 7 1/2 years ago.

Silver Bullet, welcome to the SHO Forum and a large amount of experience to help keep your SHO running in top shape. Yes, these engines are capable of long and potent lifetimes. According to a dynomometer run in November of last year, my engine is actually running stronger than when it came from Ford (232 hp, 223 lb-ft).

There have been several topic threads, some very recently, that discussed the longevity of the SHO engine. You can use the "search" function available at the top right of most Forum pages to find topics that have already been discussed. Many in great detail.

What we have found is that with proper maintenance, good oil history and a non-abusive driver, the SHO can last beyond 300,000 miles without a major rebuild. After replacing the connecting rod bearings on my engine just last week (at 269,000 miles), I would say that even this service should be considered a maintenance activity and not a rebuild. For the total expense of $44.94 for the bearings, I hardly consider that a major expense either.

Again, welcome.
