I've got my 95 MTX in the air waiting for the Y-Pipe from Mikey and want to replace the aged manifold to y-pipe bolts. Where is the best source for these, and is this part likely to come out OK with heat and penetrant?

Please advise cause I really want to improve the repairability of everything I touch on this low mile car the first time through so I have fewer and fewer headaches as I progress. Seems like removing the y-pipe happens frequently enough to warrant whatever initial hassle is involved in getting those 10 year old Pennsylvanian bolts replaced. Should I remove the entire manifold for a better renovation?

I bought some new studs and nuts from Ford for my '97. Broke two of the old ones off before I just took it to the machine shop and had it all made better for $30. You definitely will need mucho heat if you are going to try and remove the studs. The '97 is M12 x 1.5.

I`m in the dropping the Y Pipe right now. NO really, I just came in from outside. I broke the first bolt, it was really rusty. I guess I`m gonna go ahead and try and replace them all on my 89. IT came from New England so it has a lot of corrosion on the bolts.

Does anyone know how to get the stud out of the manifold to Y Pipe. I can probably figure it out but I would like to hear from someone who has worked with one that we pretty darn rusty....

Thanks. Back to the car

Get a torch, make the manifold glow (not the stud, but the manifold around it), then turn it out while it's still glowing.
