My cousin and I are planning on fixing my dead 90 SHO and replacing the old 3.0 with a used one in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to keep this job to a minimal money wise. I just want to know if it's worth it because it's right there when the engine is out. Neither of us have done a clutch before, but my cousin has pulled and installed motors before. Might be able to get someone who has done a clutch to help out then.

The tranny isn't in the best of shape and I think it's a used one, most likely bad synchro's causing the slow shifting neccessity into 2nd and 3rd? Anyways, what do you think, the clutch didn't feel that bad since I bought it and drove for a half year. Didn't slip or nothing and I drove it hard.

Im in the middle of doing a complete engine overhaul for my 93 red sho. Doing a complete overhaul will cost you a fortune in gaskets.... But if you are just throwing in a used engine, you wont spend too much money. When I pulled the engine, i did it with the trans still attached from above. It came out real easy, just make sure to watch out for all the power steering lines. When you take off the trans from the engine, you will be able to see how worn the pressure plate fingers are.... if they are pretty well worn, I would replace the clutch. I picked up a stock clutch off of ebay for 200 bucks with a brand new flywheel.... there are good deals out there.

If your cousin can pull and install motors(especially transaxle) he should be able to pull a clutch job off no problem.

Yeah, sounds like I'll be pulling the tranny and motor all at once to make it an easier job, thanks for that info. I spose I better be ordering a new flywheel and clutch all at once just to make sure the two will go together right. I have no clue if this junk motor has the 89-90 clutch and flywheel or the 91+ version..

Sounds like I found a motor $350 at a auto parts store not too far, the other place said $650-850 for a motor.

I have pictures of the engine outta the car and the engine bay empty, but no pictures of it comming out. As long as the piston on the transmission side of the engine is disconnected, there is no problem taking it out from the top. You do need to disconnect the axles, and power steering lines....
