With Ford turning there backs on the car market, whats next for your garage?

I'll probably nab up a TDI in the next couple years. Wife has a fusion that is fine for now. I'll keep the sho for a good little while. Might move into a better project after sho is done. Sho is absolutely more a labor of love than it is a full blown quarter car. Mustang or maybe something LS powered down the line

While I agree Ford has turned their backs on us regarding sedans, you can't deny they they have been pushing the limit on their Engine development. Chevy and Mopar are still using mostly outdated Engine tech, (pushrods}. My 5.0 Coyote absolutely howls and I haven't touched it. They are coyotes pushing 800 HP and up on stock internals all over Youtube. One of my sons friends has one with twin turbos pushing almost 900. He just has a built A10 lol.

I love the Audi, but I know that's a long ways off. CTS-V, not enough room. I guess I'll just keep Fixing Or Repairing Daily what I have lol.

I think this move will force more younger buyers (people with less income) into the waiting arms of Nissan (sentra), Honda (civic), and Toyota (Corolla). And they MIGHT just get locked in for life. Nissan has a solid line up. Honda and Toyota just need more exciting offerings for enthusiasts, and they'll have complete lineups as well.

Smells like trouble for a company that's doubling down on 1 segment of the market.

That's funny because we bought a new C7 last year. I now realize that I'm not as flexible as I used to be. Getting in/out of the car in the garage, no problem. But out on my driveway (on a hill) is downright embarrassing and I avoid it because I don't want to end up on you tube.

Ford is the only mfg'er to have abandoned ALL cars, sans the Mustang's. Which is entirely dumb.

Plenty of market space left for entry level and midsized sedans as younger adults are less likely to jump directly into the truck/SUV market during college, or even right after.

Whereas even the CR article you linked, cites only a small portion of each one of those other Domestic platforms are only dropping one or two underperforming cars alone. Just look at the list of cars cited as an example.

Which again, is NOT the same as abandoning the car market entirely like Ford has done.

Tariffs are impacting sales as well, and fluctuating (fossil) fuel costs will have an adverse impact as they always have moving forward. Least not to mention the fact that the EV's aren't able to be fully embraced/supported as the market has been slow to implement EV charging stations nationwide in any kind of mass application.

But I'm not sure this discussion is what the OP intended. Re-read the thread title there H.O.E.

I haven't checked it personally but I heard on the radio the other day that GM is down to just three cars themselves. The Corvette being one, one model of Cadillac and I can't remember what the third car was. Everything else is trucks and SUVs for them.

What the US car companies lack now is the economy class car. Ford ditched the focus, aka, the Honda civic of America. Chevy ditched the cobalt. And dodge ditched the neon.

Now, one could make the argument that that market can only handle so many dominant fixtures...like the civic and Corolla. But then...I ask you...if that were true...why did Porsche make a station wagon and an SUV? Why did Honda make a pick up truck? Why is Lamborghini making an SUV? Why doesn't VW get rid of the golf/rabbit?

My first new car was an 05 Honda civic ex with a 5 speed manual. I loved that car. Traded it for 3,000$ for my SHO this year. Still ran great. That car made me a Honda fan, likely for life. I just wish they made a sports car...

I don't presume to be smarter than the current head hancho of ford, but...imo, getting rid of the economy class of vehicles is a grave error, imo.

I wouldn't call that Honda a truck. That's a vehicle that someone's mentally challenged kid made and they felt bad so they let it exist. I disagree with a lot of decisions Ford makes but... They follow the money. I used to wonder why they made the f150 so customizable but most of their other vehicles were very restricted with options, then I saw they sell almost 900k a year and I thought oh it makes cents. I hated seeing the focus rs and st die but then I saw the abysmal sales numbers and I thought well damn, noone was buying em so why keep making em

Maybe I'm off topic a little but I give it 5 to 8 year's and most of the cars coming off the assembly line will be Electric. Can you imagine what that technology will be in 5 years every time they make a new laptop within 2 years that laptop will be old and obsolet. Technology Advance every 2 years. Just something to ponder on okay back to your topic....

EV don't really have that big of a market share yet. I think it'll be more like 20-30 before we see a crossover point of more EVs than Combustion. You and I live in Cali, so we see them more frequently, but they aren't that widespread nationwide. And IMHO, electric is only a stop-gap technology. I don't know what it is yet, bu I don't think electric is the real answer to fossil fuel vehicles. Imagine the drain on the power grid along with the amount of EXTREMELY hazardous waste batteries piling up in junkyards if it where to grow to 50% of the cars on the road, much less all cars. Our power grid is already pretty taxed. No...I think we'll see a different tech emerge in about 10 years that will be more viable than electric. Just my opinion...
