With Ford turning there backs on the car market, whats next for your garage?

As the title suggests, whatcha guys looking at? I'm a total anti SUV/Truck kinda guy so I definitely feel abandoned by Ford.
The wife might just end up with a 21 Mach1 but I am definitely going to shop other brands as well. Especially in a 48-54k price range...
Just had the same conversation with a Sales Assoc I have known for years at my local dealer. Evidently I am not the only one that the boot on the ground troops are worried about losing.

I appreciate and understand Ford's commitment to becoming more green within their product design; through more electric, hybrid, smaller displacement, forced induction, and other other various ways. And they are still continuing to be the top contender of performance. However, what I don't understand is why they cannot offer other options for those that want Smiles per gallon.

I would love a special edition v8 Fusion/Taurus. GM has it with the Cadi-CTS and the Chevy-SS. Mopar has it with the Charger.

SO disappointed with the brand right now, if you don't want a SUV or a Truck there just not a brand for you.
Thats truly the reason I decided on dropping the money I have on the 11 SHO and not just putting 13-15k down on another vehicle.
My wife and I are "empty nesters" so we're thinking smaller in general and more "fun".
We did look at a Stinger GT and I do like the look of the Genesis G70, just don't like there lack of tuning.
In the end we ended up with the Fusion Sport.
Looking more and more like a BMW or Mercedes in the future. Will just look at 1-2yo CPO cars....

You're right....
Actually drove a ST today as I had to take the FS in for its 5th CV drive shaft replacement. In strait line acceleration I'm sure once tuned the ST would be just as quick as her FS. We just don't have any use for a vehicle that large. We will definitely be getting rid of the FS within the next yr, just to much time in the shop. Mentioned to her this afternoon I might look at getting her a very low mileage 18 or 19 SHO and that was met with Crickets....
And a comment of "Too Big"
The other option for her is a 18 ATS-V with low miles, there just getting tough to come across.

Honestly for me the next vehicle will probably be a minivan, between kids, work, and the wife, it just makes sense. Plus price wise they are so much better than an suv. Granted this is a few years down the road, and I have no intention of getting rid of the SHO at that time.

Before anyone gets too worried though. The deal is that if I gotta drive a minivan I also get to build a detached garage and begin working on FF GTM, or maybe by that time Ill have to go with the F9 they are working on.

Ironic timing of this thread.

Just bought wife a new 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited w/the 1.6L (single) turbo.

She absolutely loves the car, and we've been quite pleased with the (used) 2015 MY of the exact same vehicle we purchased her a few years back (which we ended up gifting to our youngest child as a result of this current purchase).

The amount of tech in this car is utterly insane. There are cameras like everywhere. The dash even changes to a camera view when a turn signal is activated. The car can also pull itself in and out of a parking stall by means of the remote! Completely driverless! Crazy stuff. We also love the LED lighting throughout. Just a sharp car all around and the warranty (both in coverage and duration is industry leading).

Too bad for FORD that they chose to opt out of the car market. We spent our money elsewhere as a result of their decision(s).

Which I still think was/is incredibly premature on their part. Oh well. They forced my hand.

Surely you guys realize the staggering sales difference...
What's the number of all sedans combined vs 1 million f150s per year?
Ford was the leader followed by fiat Chrysler and GM.

Also the Non US manufacturers can't compete with the Ford trucks so they focus on the sedans.

Ford is the only mfg'er to have abandoned ALL cars, sans the Mustang's. Which is entirely dumb.

Plenty of market space left for entry level and midsized sedans as younger adults are less likely to jump directly into the truck/SUV market during college, or even right after.

Whereas even the CR article you linked, cites only a small portion of each one of those other Domestic platforms are only dropping one or two underperforming cars alone. Just look at the list of cars cited as an example.

Which again, is NOT the same as abandoning the car market entirely like Ford has done.

Tariffs are impacting sales as well, and fluctuating (fossil) fuel costs will have an adverse impact as they always have moving forward. Least not to mention the fact that the EV's aren't able to be fully embraced/supported as the market has been slow to implement EV charging stations nationwide in any kind of mass application.

But I'm not sure this discussion is what the OP intended. Re-read the thread title there H.O.E.

Biggest mistake Ford will have ever made. I bleed FORD blue but if I want a 4 door sedan, and don't want to step up to Lincoln, I have to change brands. Not everybody wants a frigging truck or SUV.
So, I buy a Toyota, Chevy, Dodge, etc. Well, let's just say I am totally satisfied with their product and service, guess what, FORD just lost a die hard FORD customer forever. Multiply by thousands, $$$$$$$$$$$$

Even with some of the build quality issues on my wifes FS and 16 GT we were still happy with the cars. Now its just not a option at all...
As far as the Hybrid/EV trend goes....
Really....in a Truck or SUV, clearly "Efficiency" isn't the goal there.
Bp....Love the lines of the new Sonata it really is a nice looking car interested to see a N line version on the road.
EVERY time I see one of these on the road my Heart about jumps out of my chest.
Yea....I know extended warranty. Its on the short list and will be driven soon.

Let me be more clear. Ford has got your back. Most consumers will buy a new Ford bronco, explorer, ranger, f150, super duty, mustang etc.

You know how I know? They have been doing so for years. Ford follows the consumer and then they lead the industry.
Does everyone need an suv or truck? No. Will they buy it anyway? Yes, yes, yes.

So to everyone in this thread: with Ford having your back when it comes to American business, enjoy that new mustang, truck, or suv. If you choose to be a prius guy, don't blame Ford.

Ford doesn't have my back and NO I will not purchase a SUV or Truck. They simply turned there back on the automobile industry to focus on higher volume vehicles with a MUCH higher profit margin.
As far as I'm concerned other than the Mustang, Ford has washed there hands of me and I've been purchasing there products for 30yrs now...
If we do end up with a new GT the first quarter of next year that will be my 13th Ford. To bad we can only go to them for our toys and not our dailys.....

I get the sales difference but I feel like the Taurus is a bigger car that would still capture some of the SUV market Ford is aiming for. It was due for a new generation and now would’ve been the perfect time for a refresh. They definitely dropped the ball. A lot of sedan buyers myself included won’t “switch” over to suvs or trucks. Instead switch to different brands like Alfa Romeo, dodge, Mercedes bmw Audi etc.

I'm more of a "Drive the car til the wheels fall of or until someone hits me" kinda guy. I've only owned 5 vehicles in 17 years of driving, so I plan to stick with the SHO until something big changes.

My wife's 2014 KIA Sorento is starting to show it's age though, so we are toying with upgrading to a 2021 Telluride S once we get through COVID, the oil industry is just too chaotic right now to take on a new car payment.

Once things are through i'll be buying a 2018ish Raptor, but that will be after the new home purchase because otherwise one of the cars will be in the street and that isn't gonna work.

I'm also kind of anti-suv, not anti-truck but I have no need for a truck. Out of the 11 cars I've owned in my life 5 have been Lincoln's and 2 have been Ford, so I see my self as Ford guy, but if I stick with Ford it'll only be a Mustang.

I do have an older Camry as a daily driver to put miles on, but regardless my other car would have to be a coupe or a sedan. So I'm with you guys, Ford is steering some of us elsewhere

Other than the Mustang I have been somewhat interested in the Kia Stinger GT2 but I haven't done any research on them.

Any of M3/M4/M5 would be awesome but pricey and I would only lease.

Lol, a 2014 showing signs of age? My daily is a 2004 Nissan Titan that I've owned since it was new at the dealership...I'm the first owner. Almost 250K miles, has been broken into 5 times in its life, no stereo the last 6 years, (I just listen to my blinker clicking away nowadays), plastics starting to crack, steering wheel leather is almost gone, dings, dents and scratches, sun bleached clear coat, yellowed headlights, etc. Only thing major I've ever done was rebuild the rear diff and replace all the suspension rubber, but that 5.6 is still going strong.

Funny, I told my wife I been thinking about a new daily driver truck and was looking at gen2 raptors, but I may just step up to a f250/350...the utility of a pickup truck is just too important to me.
